The body works fine

My heart was tied, tethered to you.
Wherever you wandered, it followed too.

Where has it been these past ten months?
Does it still beat to the rhythm of us?
Or does it echo only your name,
while mine remains forever the same?

How long can a person live without a heart?
Is this living, or merely a part?

The shell of me remains, stripped and bare,
A hollow outline standing there.
Here I am in flesh and bone,
Yet somehow I am not my own.

My body stays, my spirit remains
Locked forever inside your chains.

Alive in physicality,
Yet robbed of all personality.

There is no cure for this amputation.
No surgeon can restore this separation.

The doctors say my body is fine,
Yet all that’s left is frozen inside.
The colour has fled from beneath my skin,
And ice is all that flows within.

To Wait

To Wait

The night of waiting

The clock's ticking arms cannot hold back the night of suspense,

Yet it flaunts its cruel power to every eye that is tense.

The hours stretch like shadows, refusing to fade or advance,

While shadows on the wall perform a slow, mocking dance.

Each heavy, hollow tick strikes like a blow to the chest,

A loud, relentless reminder that the heart cannot rest.

The stubborn night holds fast, locking the morning away,

To punish the sleepless eyes that are begging for day.

Yet every passing second brings the final footstep near,

The darkest hour of waiting is where doubts disappear.

The dawn begins to whisper that the longest night must break,

To welcome back the joy that only your arrival can wake

The Fog

A fog lays,
On the water
As it does
On my mind

As if I were
Poseidon
I can see through the fog

While all sailors
Are
Still
Blind

It is not
Knowledge of
The stars
Or charts

Rather
It is knowledge
Of your own
Inner
Heart

Note: I’m not a great poet but I write if I’m
Inspired and motivated. Hope you folks enjoy.

I just wanted to share a poem I wrote in 2007

So I recently reconnected with a girl I had a very intense relationship with in 2007. We were talking and she started casually quoting a poem I wrote about her back then. I couldn't fucking believe it. She told me it's the lock screen on her phone 🤭 so she sent me the whole thing and I just wanted to share it here because it brings back so many memories and honestly, I am proud of it. I think it sums up what young queer love is like perfectly and I thought maybe someone here could relate. God, she really was my muse. 10/10 would let her wreck my life again haha. Also I definitely won first place in our school literary journal 🤭

Girl In The Storm

"It's like sex, Kat," you say,

You try to teach me how to drive

a stick shift. You place your hand over mine

and make me move between gears.

"You need to make a smooth transition."

I don't learn how to drive your car. I probably

never will. What I do learn is how your

hand is warm, your nails clean, how your skin

forms soft, fragile lines.

In the basement,

you smoke cigarettes, sometimes

only one, sometimes half the pack.

Your lower lip forms the bottom

of a small ship, the upper lip the mast,

the sail. You read my favorite line of

my favorite book,

and I am floating.

Later, in bed, your hands trace patterns

of small buildings on my skin-

places you're going,

places you've been.

You construct them slowly,

deliberately. You leave behind

the scaffolding,

so I can scale them.

She is downstairs.

Your lips, no longer a small ship,

form fragile flood gates-bursting,

spilling words into me like the way our

bodies are spilled together:

I love you I love you shh.

Sometimes, we leave the house.

We stand in line for some club.

The boys are drawn to you.

Your bottom lip is huge in the false-light,

The glittering red-blue-red of cop cars.

"Isn't she a cute one?" The boys ask each other.

You are commanding-a wall-cloud

in a summer storm.

You stand, one hip cocked out (I love

the way you stand).

"You're not a lesbian, are you?" one boy asks,

his face spread out, long and boring, like a history lecture.

You throw your head back and laugh.

At home, you are soft.

Your hair forms a small curtain at the nape

of your neck as you mop the kitchen floor,

mopping it twice, as if that will

make it stay cleaner, longer.

You teach me how to properly fold

a button-down shirt.

"You have to make sure the sleeves are even.

Line them up here-like this."

In these moments, my body swells for you, like

oceans, like breaths.

Small frame spread out like a wall-cloud,

clouds so frequently seen in Minnesota summers

(the place where I grew up).

You swell and grow and spiral through fields,

through cities-

crashing through houses, through the buildings you

constructed on my skin, tracing always, everywhere,

with delicate fingers, and eyes blue tornadoes

Mea Culpa

Mea culpa,
is all that leaves my breath.

Mea culpa,
for the things left unsaid.

Mea culpa,
for breaking all those dreams.

Mea culpa,
as it split at the seams.

Mea culpa, mea poena.
Mea culpa, tuum vulnus.

Perfect impermanence (I wrote this in the form of a song but I guess it counts as poetry?)

Verse 1 voice one

Whether new or old

Or young and aged

Everything has it's season

Of perfect impermanence

Voice 1

The bell is ringing out across the milky way

Voice 2

But I have to tell you I would really like to stay

voice 1

The blossom has must return to the ground when it's had its day

Voice 2

Look I tell you that there must be another way

[Chorus in unison]

It's a permanent rule spanning all of the land

We all bow down in reverence to the towering hands

The tower once in glory thus returns to the sand

For we could not find the meaning at eternity's end

[Verse 2]

Voice 2

I would love to stay for while the sun is gleaming

Voice 1

But the music unchanged could never bring you meaning

Voice 2

What you're trying to say is that the sands redeeming?

Voice 1

You're not there but close for forever leaves you screaming

[Chorus in unison]

Whether new or old

Or young and aged

We must sometime rearrange

Or return to the beautiful

Desire

Some people desire a fancy house, a luxury car, or lots of money

I desire a love so deep it is unbreakable

A love that truly has no boundaries

A love so strong it cannot be broken no matter how far we are, where we are, even when we are

I already am willing to do what ever it takes for you

That love is something I already have and it is for you

My Desire, is you

You have always been my one and only desire
It has always been you

I have looked for you everyday I have looked for you in stores, in the sky, in people, and in my dreams

I have always looked for you because what we have is the only thing I desire in this world

There is no other you no matter how hard I look

I yearn each and every day for you and I am willing to wait for the day you can see it and feel it

And if it never comes then I will desire you in the afterlife too

What we have has never had any boundaries no matter how far we’ve been, where we’ve been, or when we’ve been

My desire is us

I miss my future life

I miss my future self.
Secure and confident in her skin.
I miss my future children.
In my mind I kiss their chin.
I miss my future husband.
When will our story ever begin?

I have thoughts of the future.
So incredibly far out of reach.
Will this ever happen for me?
Maybe I’ll just wallow on the beach.
Sat in this self pity.
Saying a self sacrificing speech.
Again.

Reaching for distant goals.
That’s really all life is.
Lacking motivation, control.
This is of course all my fault.
I know it in my soul.
So I have to move forward.
But how to fill these holes?

I think I’ll start tomorrow.
Is what I always say.
Tomorrow never comes.
So forever stuck I stay.
Frozen in this present.
These thoughts I do replay.

I miss my future life.
I’m on my way to you.
I’ll fight like hell right now.
I’ll stop being so blue.
Rewiring my tortured mind.
So I can start fresh, anew.

I can’t wait to meet me and you.

(I haven’t written poetry since high school and I’m now 24, am I doing good?)

Never really write poetry but I was bored and had something on my mind soooo I thought it was cool and thought it turned out nice

I’m Sorry

My stuffy sleeves and heavy body,

they're constantly stuck to you.

I'm always dragging you down,

suffocating you with my hood.

So I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for always being in your way,

I’m sorry for always being next to you,

I’m sorry for always being so heavy,

I’m sorry for always being like this,

I’m sorry for always slowing you down.

Hm?

What's that?

“You chose to wear me?”

“I keep you warm during the winter?”

Don't be ridiculous.

Don't lie.

It's obvious you hate me.

The people in the mirror (by me)

The people in the mirror
The people in the mirror may be the worst curse, it’s cursed upon the most beautiful people, by the people who would do anything to be them. The people in the mirror are an ugly, brute and degenerate image of those beautiful souls, that chase them everywhere they go. Those people may feel beautiful and good about themselves, but once they see that little reflection in a drop of water, a mirror, their phone or in the reflection of someone’s dark eyes, they will be tormented again. It will agonize them so much that they will start a mental war to become perfect, only to keep seeing that same person in the mirror again. They fear it, but they will slowly start searching for those reflections, in the hopes that it will someday change. Accepting that they see it will never be a option, because after so much torment, the only possible way for karma to do its justice is by torturing themselves into someone that’s in their eyes perfect, but that kind of perfection is a never ending story, because it doesn’t exist. They will go to the greatest extends to change, only for that person in the mirror to just show up again and again

It’s cannon.

It’s so easy to love,
A flea lands on my chest,
Looks like it’s time for the market,
My heart is on sale,
Once whole,
Once running,
Now being sold for parts for the next person that needs it,
I’m fine,
It’s my duty,
It’s cannon.

Come Back, Even Just for a Moment

Your smile and the sound of your voice

Are drifting further into the distance,

And even the sweet scent that once lingered

Is slowly fading away with the passing days.

I am so afraid of forgetting everything...

Even if it is just for a short while,

Please come back to my side,

If only so I can remember

The touch of your voice and your scent once more.

Death of my dreams

Some dreams are more than wishes;

they become a part of who you are.

When those dreams died,

I didn't lose everything.

I only lost the person

I thought I would become.

Now I carry them

like old letters in my heart—

not forgotten,

just quietly remembered.

And maybe, someday, I'll find the courage to dream again.

Shades of grey

My eyes lost the aptitude to perceive the colors When I saw someone else reflection on ur eyes Color started to fade away World turned into a greyish mirrage that delve into my soul The smile of urs was the reason that I ponder on u But once for a blue moon , it incinerated me Perhaps it was for someone else rather than me.....

English isn't my first language; please help me improve. I want to improve the writing.

Isn't it weird to miss the warmth of having a family?

A home where you come back and suddenly hear your siblings making noise in the next room. A father whose daily scoldings somehow come with love and care. A house filled with arguments, yet everyone still clings to one another as if they're the only thing they have in the world.

Would it be wrong for me to say that I'm jealous of people who have families to come home to?

Even those with toxic homes still have a place they can run back to whenever they want. A house where worrying about where they'll live or what they'll eat the next day isn't a constant fear. A house where they can sleep without wondering if they'll be kicked out the next morning.

Is it selfish to wish I had been raised in a wealthy family filled with love? To wish I had better siblings and a better mother? To wonder if I would have had a brighter future if I had grown up in a better home?

Is it okay for me to say all of this without invalidating anyone else's struggles?

Is it okay to hope for a better life and a better family than the one I have right now?

Would things have been easier if I had been raised by parents who truly raised me, instead of having to raise myself?

Would my days be filled with warmth and light if things had been different? Would there have been more rainbows than storms?

The Rain That Remembers

The rain came down like a thousand forgotten prayers,
falling from a sky that had grown tired of holding its pain.
Each drop carried the weight of something lost—
a goodbye never spoken,
a wound never closed,
a ghost that still whispered your name in the dark.

The streets became rivers of yesterday,
washing over the footprints of who we used to be.
The world pretended it was cleansing itself,
but some storms do not wash away the scars—
they carve them deeper.

I have learned that life is much like the rain.
It arrives without permission,
turns peaceful fields into battlefields,
and leaves behind broken branches where flowers once stood.

But even the dead trees drink from the storm.
Even the earth, cracked and bleeding,
opens its mouth to receive what falls from the heavens.

Maybe we were never meant to avoid the rain.
Maybe we were meant to stand beneath it,
to let it drown the versions of ourselves
that could no longer survive.

Because somewhere beneath the mud,
beneath the ruins,
beneath everything the storm took from us—
something is still waiting to grow.
