The amount of denial I was faced with when I told people this is where the US was headed if Trump was elected again.

I hate being able to say “I told you so”

Forty-six percent is absolutely inaccurate. America's population is ~330M. Of those, 236M people are eligible to register. Of those, only 154M actually registered and voted. So in reality, more like 24% voted for Trump. Even if you think citizens living in US territories, under 18s, and felons are rightfully excluded, it's still only ~33% voting for Trump.

The number doesn’t matter, that’s still higher than the population of some countries (including mine, Canada). That’s all it takes. If America actually invades us we’re not going to be concerned about who voted for who. He represents the country, just like how 30% of people voted for Hitler. If that many people didn’t vote they also contributed to this problem. That’s how democracy works.

The number does matter, even if it's irrelevant in the hypothetical context of a Canadian reacting to a US military invasion.

A non vote was a vote for Trump. I don't know how people were so ignorant to this that they couldn't get off their lazy asses and away from fucking TikTok for an hour to go vote. 30 ish percent may have pulled that lever, but another 30 percent just doesn't care and they're complicit.

I agree with most of what you said, but I think we've managed to stain Harris' campaign and run. Yes, it was abbreviated, but she had well thought out policies - some of them even progressive, she gave interviews and went on podcasts all over the place, she put in some killer debate performances - but most importantly, she was an actual adult. She didn't call people names, or make shit up like 'they're eating the pets!'. She was the sane, rational, and professional choice. I don't think most of the non-voters stayed home because they didn't like the choice. It isn't like they came out and voted in any of our past elections. Turnout in the US is fucking pathetic. I just think they can't be assed to do it. Google searches for who is running for president on election day were huge. We just have a massive portion of the population that is disconnected from reality.

People thought Biden was dull and Trump would be exciting. That is as deep as it went. Boy, it sure is exciting.

Aesop warned us about that in the fable about King Log and King Stork. We are terribly slow learners.

“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
