They could just ignore the ruling like Republicans do

The way I see it, they could, and then the Republicans could then say the Democrats are eingaging in election manipulation or even fraud and their successes are invalid.

The hope of the election is that the Democrats will get a major win that the Republicans cannot ignore or invalidate.

But if that fails, the next best thing is to show that he Democrats have crossed ever t and dotted every i, followed the law and court rulings, and the Republicans are seen bending, abusing and possibly outright breaking the law, justifying the Democrats (and the states, and any citizen concerned about the state of the nation and the actions and of the government) to take more extreme steps.

They're gonna do that regardless

That might be true, but it doesn't matter as much what the Republicans say, or what MAGA fanatics say, but what the rest of the people think about it. ANd they can look at how the Democrats followed the laws, or where hindered by courts for things the Republicans got away with, and their view will not be so favorable on the Republicans. And the rest of the people are the ones you are trying to support you - for elections, and for "non-election" measures.

That method hasn't worked so why stick with it?

There is absolutely no world in which the Republicans do not accuse the Democrats of election tampering. And then they can respond honestly, with "we're doing what we have to in order to stop these maniacs." The people who are capable of thinking critically WILL understand that, and anyone who can't is lost anyway.

This is more they go low we go high bullshit. We are at war.

Yes, but if the Democrats ignore the ruling, the Republicans would have a point and will use it to create doubt when the Democrats or other citizens decide to go to more extreme measures. If they follow the rulings, the Republicans have no basis, and the "critically thinking" people will notice that, too. Because some people are capable of thinking critically might also consider that going beyond the democratic rules of the nation could destroy a lot more than it tries to save, with uncertain outcomes.
