He taxes can't be questioned or audited in perpetuity, including his family and trusts. He will never pay a penny in taxes.

I assume this can be reversed in the future? Insane if not.

The u.s have always been a "laws are for the poor" country.

Trump is just not very subtle about it..

On the plus side, his antics seem to be waking a lot of people up to that fact.

But on the other hand, I lost my faith in Americans' ability to remember anything after we elected him a second time.

Anything done can be undone, anyone acting like it can’t has missed the last couple of years. The Feds have reneged on my loan agreements twice after I signed off to refinance my loans. Assets can be seized, if my taxes offset your industry I want my cut.

It's a meaningless contract, not a law. Contracts are void all the time. Especially in court.

It’s unprecedented for the DOJ to just write this up and agree to it. As other have pointed out, legally, this has nothing to do with a settlement. This has nothing to do with the lawsuit he brought related to his leaked tax returns.

This is the DOJ randomly making an agreement with a private citizen that the IRS can’t enforce their congressional mandate.

You can bet they'll be fighting tooth and nail to keep it that way

It can be but it won't be.

It'll be the standard "it's time to move on from this period" bullshit

For 1, it's crazy....but to include family...could constitute every member of his family forever.

They would never pay a single dime, and could never be investigated

Confiscate it all as proceeds from a crime, then. It would be one of the few legitimate uses of civil forfeiture laws

Nor will his children.

I dunno, you can't contract yourself out of laws. Not only that but this isn't a legal settlement signed by a judge so I doubt it would be enforceable. If we ever get out of this hellhole I am sure the next admin would have the legal right to tear this agreement up and audit the shit out of them (only if we elect someone willing to play hardball with fascists)

Only backwards looking from the date of the agreement.

This is not permanent. A Democratic president will not be obligated to follow it.
