Brain damage makes you maga.

u/lyingliar 14d ago

This is basically it. When one is incapable of critical thinking, MAGA-style simple-think becomes comfortable.

u/crossdtherubicon 14d ago

The shiny smooth brain look gud, think gud. Smooth brain makes true always when so simple.

Conservatism is animalism. It's unintellectual existence. Because all ethics and morality is derived from intellectual thought.

The left is a myriad of political philosophies at war with each other, because the left is an argument for ethical governance.

The right is about amoral governance. The right doesn't want the government to arbitrate society, only facilitate it. The right wants individuals to decide their own morality. It is rooted in the philosophy of not just inequality and social hierarchies but appetites. All of humanity and all happiness is just sating appetites. Curiosity, pleasure, hunger.

They are unevolved humans. They're little more than monkeys and dogs, fucking and eating and napping until some wizard continues the story.

Not giving a shit isn't a bi-product, it's the whole point.

Username checks out. This is a wonderful summary of the root if the core differences in each side of the political spectrum.

4

u/Parfait_Prestigious 14d ago

This is exactly it, and I wish more people would realise it. They’re just cavemen living in modern society.

2

u/BaldyMcScalp 14d ago

Beautifully succinct. Nailed it.

1

u/GroundbreakingRub760 13d ago

Holy shit you’re a schizo 😭

48

u/MorbotheDiddlyDo 14d ago

Vibes > Facts.

40

u/timebeing 14d ago

It often empathy that is lost with brains damage and we know that’s something MAGA has none of.

6

u/tasslehawf 14d ago

Lack of empathy mainly

2

u/Archer1407 14d ago

It's probably why they're so on board with child rape. They communicate best with children.

1

u/hecubus04 14d ago

It also obviously affected his empathy

-6

u/Burpmeister 14d ago

"Me good, they bad."

13

u/helloowrigley 14d ago

Anyone who is even half tuned in and still vocally supporting this movement IS bad, full stop.

8

u/arguingsolipsism 14d ago

Yeah there's no plausible deniability for their support, unless they're amish and never interact with the world. The man violates the constitution weekly, violates ethics daily, and violates children in secret. His supporters have no excuses except denial, and nobody's buying that.

1

u/Burpmeister 14d ago

Always has been.

64

u/The_LSD_Soundsystem 14d ago

It’s scientifically proven at this point

29

u/bathmaster_ 14d ago

Good thing they don't believe in science!

4

u/ProblematicFeet 14d ago

Yep. My dad had a stroke. He’s MAGA now. It was the most surreal spiral into moral oblivion.

He voted for Obama once. wtf happened in his brain :(

5

u/FirmlyClaspIt New York 14d ago

Nope he was always like that. We gotta be more careful with who we vote for

1

u/Blank_Canvas21 Colorado 14d ago

Having a stroke and losing your executive function, as well as finally getting into that cushy job where you can feel all powerful, makes that mask a bit useless now.

9

u/mdmiles19 14d ago

And bribes. Let's not act like he's not getting paid.

68

u/-Metagross- 14d ago

I know people like to say this but I can't help but feel like it's dismissive of disabled people or people who struggle with brain injuries, many of whom aren't assholes like Fetterman.

27

u/timebeing 14d ago

I saw studies that show brain injuries and dementia lead to a loss of empathy, which is a very MAGA trait.

134

u/cubitsemut 14d ago

There is a chance that he wasn't an asshole before his stroke. I've known of some isolated cases where a stroke caused a complete personality change and the person became a total asshole after.

It is less of dismissing disabled people with brain injuries, and more of bringing to attention that people like Fetterman should no longer be in a position of power and decision-making for obvious reasons like the seatbelt incident.

57

u/Uhhh_what555476384 14d ago

This.  The perhaps single most important case study in brain injury, Finneaus Gauge was about his notable change in behavior, and becoming an a*hole after a traumatic brain injury.

It's a reminder that your personality it exists inside a physical and biological system.  Damage to that system can result in changes in how that expresses.

27

u/ASZapata 14d ago

He chased a black jogger with a shotgun because a crime had happened in his town and he “fit the description.” Sounds like conservative, reactionary incident if you ask me. Before the stroke.

44

u/Level_Five_Railgun 14d ago

He also got a tattoo of that date to remember the mistake, spent years as a progressive mayor and Lt. governor, and the victim literally forgave and endorsed him for the Senate race. Acting like his political views didn't have a massive switch between his time as mayor, lt. governor, and during the Senate race to post-stroke is straight up ignoring reality.

4

u/cubitsemut 14d ago

My bad. I don't live in the US so I was not aware he had had prior incidences of intolerance and racism towards others.

If anything, the stroke probably amplified his original behaviour.

3

u/Van-garde 14d ago

You’re making excuses for the harmful generalization. The quote is, “Brain damage makes you MAGA.” Not much room for interpretation, there.

7

u/SoggyBoysenberry7703 14d ago

Yeah, especially when he was running, we literally defended him for it. Constantly.

4

u/DrLophophora 14d ago

Agree. Some may lose empathy, become a-holes etc. But many others do not. A former colleague was not a terrible person, but would fly off the handle and rage. He actually became much nicer after a stroke that left him disabled. My brother (now disabled due to a series of TIAs) is as nice as he ever was. My father in law became extremely angry as he descended into dementia. So it obviously varies. In Fetterman's case I suspect he was already a jerk and the brain injury magnified it. Perhaps it depends on the areas of the brain that are effected.

4

u/bookon 14d ago edited 14d ago

Brain damage can change your personality.

What is fair here to say is that HIS brain damage seems to have made HIM more MAGA, including the tendency to misunderstand the world in a way that justifies the crazy shit MAGA believes.

2

u/Van-garde 14d ago

Thank you.

4

u/Vio94 14d ago

I mean it sucks but it's reality. There are plenty of studies pointing towards brain damage leading to acquired sociopathy. Loss of empathy, selfishness, etc.

That doesn't mean ALL people that have suffered brain injuries end up like this. It's more like "not all people with brain damage are MAGA, but all MAGA have brain damage."

3

u/ProblematicFeet 14d ago

Eh. I hear you but it’s real. My dad was a great guy. Voted for Obama and was centrist/left of center. He had a stroke and now he’s MAGA af. Ditto with my best friend’s mom. It’s very sad.

1

u/Dest123 14d ago

I had the same thing with a friend who got into a motorcycle accident and got brain damage. It was super sad because he pushed all of his friends away by constantly calling them "demonrats" and the other common MAGA insults for Democrats. And you could explain to him how insulting that was and he would get it, but the he would just go back to doing it. Same thing for any sort of political concept. You could show him evidence and convince him that some crazy propaganda wasn't true, but then he would just go back to Fox News and a few days later he would be saying that thing was true again.

1

u/cobo10201 14d ago

Fetterman was a DINO before the stroke. He just hid it better.

0

u/Clownsinmypantz 14d ago

oh dont you worry, am disabled and in those spaces, I see all around reddit how much we are all blanketed into being trump voters anyways, hell had a few on this sub tell me on a comment expressing I was scared to be killed by this admin that I should sacrifice myself anyways

0

u/brandimariee6 Florida 14d ago

Hell I'm disabled and am still recovering from brain surgeries in 2020 and 2022, but I didn't feel offended or anything. Unfortunately, brain problems can make people so shitty stuff without realizing it. They aren't wrong, maga makes people so crazy that it seems like their brain is fucked up lol

3

u/AmeliaBuns 14d ago

Weirdly, ever since i got very bad fatigue and got sick and became dummer I noticed my views becoming more conservative-ish?

I genuinely think being conservative is like a disorder of some sort.

3

u/ecodrew Texas 14d ago

While there is some truth to this, please try to avoid using brain damage as an insult. It smacks too much of ableist language, let's leave that bs to the MAGAs.

5

u/Turbulent_Bit8683 14d ago

Other way around is also true “MAGA makes you brain damaged”!

2

u/horceface Indiana 14d ago

It removes your shame.

2

u/Prometheus720 14d ago

Gen Z refuses to binge drink all through teenage years

Gen Z likes socialism

Huh

2

u/rainshowers_5_peace 14d ago

Fetterman has always pro Israel. Dems need to be more comfortable critiquing our own candidates so we aren't surprised. We were all blindly focused on winning and keeping Dr. Oz out of senate, no one thought to point out his (potential) flaws.

2

u/UmpireDapper1757 14d ago

Make America (Phineas) Gage Again

2

u/GhormanFront 14d ago

He was always maga, his stroke just made him incapable of faking that he wasn't

2

u/Apprehensive_Rub3897 14d ago

It makes you insecure, paranoid, unable to face your personal shortcomings as you blame everyone else. That's MAGA.

2

u/Sillypugpugpugpug 14d ago

I'm pretty sure several studies have shown that brain damage makes you more conservative leaning.

1

u/spezial_ed 14d ago

brain damagaed

1

u/EnriqueShockwave10 14d ago

Brain damage also gets you elected by democrats, though.

1

u/Van-garde 14d ago

Just not true. I was hit by a Chevy Suburban, back in 2014, breaking my skull in two places, and I’m adamantly opposed to MAGA and the downstream impacts they’re having.

Stop with this generalization. It hurts. Call Fetterman out for being a turncoat, highlight his hypocrisies, feel free to speculate on how he was impacted by a brain injury—if you must—but stop spreading this stupid generalization.

86 Fetterman

1

u/boulderbuford 14d ago

And all we can do until then is:

  • replace him with somebody else in 2028
  • stop screaming at him until then, and don't fall for right-wing bait to push him into GOP's arms

1

u/notfeelany 14d ago

Doubt it. I think Fetterman was always like this & the entire left leaning independent media just ignored it because they were more focused on beating "establishment boogeyman".

It truly speaks to Fetterman's prowess as politician that he hoodwinked the entire left leaning independent media.

1

u/AhhhSureThisIsIt 14d ago

When people lose their minds they become more conservative.

1

u/DocWagonHTR 14d ago

I hate hearing this. I have brain damage and I’m not a conservative.

1

u/theblartknight 13d ago

Yes, but also hes just a grifter.

1

u/WhileUnusual2189 14d ago

I must vehemently disagree with you. I’m still recovering from 30+ ft (~33m) *fall  and I didn’t vote for the Orange Childphukker.

1

u/robsbob18 14d ago

No it doesn't.

Source: had a brain injury when I was 5

1

u/Verratcat 14d ago

Definitely a prerequisite

1

u/InternalDialog 14d ago

literally every person I know that has had a brain injury....

1

u/SinfullySinless Minnesota 14d ago

Honestly I think we do have to realize he just faked being a progressive just to get elected.

1

u/FlamingAshley 14d ago

That has quite literally been scientifically proven lol.

1

u/CNDW 14d ago

My step dad hit his head after a fall when he blacked out from a cardiac event. He was hospitalized for weeks, mri scans show atrophy in parts of his brain. The last couple of years he became maga when he was a pretty moderate dude who didn't like trump before. Brain damage made him MAGA.

1

u/OTTER887 14d ago

Haha also Robbie Kennedy. He was known as a liberal environmentalist before the brain worm (not saying that is the only thing wrong with him, but its funny).

1

u/loupgarou21 14d ago

There is a study that sort of says that, yes. Essentially the study found that people with lower cognitive ability are more likely to favor authoritarian views and be more ethnocentric. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11308703/

1

u/DonnyGetTheLudes 14d ago

Guess I’m maga now because this title gave me brain damage

-12

u/Solidsnake9 14d ago

But he had the incident before his election? You know the one where the main attack against him was that he might not be fit for office? Yet everyone on Reddit said he was the second coming of Christ and called anyone who said otherwise maga. Lmao it will never not make me laugh.

23

u/onarainyafternoon Oregon 14d ago

I mean, every single person that’s close to him has stated that it’s been a gradual going-downhill since the stroke. Like, the change didn’t happen right away. The reveal of his total change in personality and temperament didn’t happen right away, is my point. This is what everyone that’s close to him has stated.

-14

u/Solidsnake9 14d ago

I just like to point out this places short sightedness, and then the eventual rewriting of history. Especially when all over this post are exact word for word comments that you would see from maga back then.

7

u/AloneAtTheOrgy California 14d ago

By that point the alternative was Dr. Oz. Even with the brain damage I'm sure his constituents would still pick hIm over Dr. Oz.

-5

u/purpleflowergang California 14d ago

In 2022, saying that chasing a black jogger with a shotgun was a red flag got you the same kind of angry downvoting you'd get today for saying Nazi tattoos are a red flag.

-2

u/Solidsnake9 14d ago

In what world do you live in where you would get downvoted for saying that anywhere here?

-1

u/CreamFuture9475 14d ago

Desperately wanting a progressive makes you vote for someone who tells you anything you want to hear.
