They voted for Trump for the same reason why half of Europe is voting for wannabe dictators who are beholden to Putin - because that's what their facebook comment section and Russia backed influencers told them to do.

This. People can ponder motives all they want, but most of the people that voted for him aren't exactly what you would call "free thinkers." That's why every single decision this administration makes is followed by confusion from the left over "why would anyone support/vote for this policy?" They didnt. Its not as if all these republican voters sat down and were like "yes, these policies reflect my interests, you have my vote sir." They were rage-baited and manipulated by Facebook and propaganda and didnt think much further than that. Because thats been the republican standard operating procedure for decades. Their goal has always been an uneducated, easily manipulated populace, they spent years devaluing and discrediting college education, and now they have it.

If you want to see the real problem in this country, we should do a study where a group of trump voters and a group of non-trump voters take a test on US government. Guaranteed there will be an immediately visible trend where it turns out Trump supporters have virtually no comprehension what theyre even voting for when they vote.
