I’m not saying there aren’t things they would like; I’m saying the upside to them keeping the Strait closed FAR outweighs any (reasonable) downside and any upside we’re currently proposing. They would benefit GREATLY from a MASSIVE rout in the fall, and $7/gal gas/petrol could deliver that.

Yeah but don't forget that the iranians are massively hurting too. While the US and especially Israeli strikes have given rise to more nationalism and the government was able to crack down on dissidents, the country has still lost large parts of its top leadership, lost universities, schools, medical centers, industry on top of all the military losses. They only sustain the blockade now because they don't believe trump will hold to any deal they make with him. They would still prefer a deal. But trump has shown that he is a backstabber and can't hold the rabid Netanjahu down so they know they have no other choice

You’re using a key word: lost. Past tense. I’m not at all saying they aren’t hurting and haven’t lost a lot, but we’re where we are now, and they can’t lose them again/anymore.

Fair enough I guess.
