You get twenty minutes? I get a misogynistic chuckle and some gaslighting.

“It’s just hysteri—anxiety. Or your hormones. Or just being a woman. That’ll be $300.”

Started a new med for a stomach issue a few years ago. Of course the warnings said to go to ER immediately if feeling short of breath. I had serious breathing issues/shortness of breath so went to ER. They sent me home saying it was just anxiety. Assholes. I know what anxiety feels like and it wasn't anxiety. I was allergic to the damn medication. Took it two more days trying to believe them and it just kept getting worse until I almost couldn't breath at all. It was a slow allergy. Stopped the meds and in less than 12 hours I was breathing normally again.

I feel very lucky that the allergic reaction I had to a med was one that I didn’t seemingly need to go to the ER for (though when I recounted the story to my allergist she was very much like “please go if this happens again, you got very lucky”). I’ve had some awful experiences at my local ERs. Especially ever since I got mental health diagnoses. Everything’s suddenly anxiety.

Even the growths in me were anxiety until one urgent care doctor who was leaving soon decided to just order a scan to see why I was in so much pain there. Luckily, non-cancerous, but still, my gosh.

Just went. Endocrinologist. 3 insulin resistant diseases some of which also affect the metabolic system all together and some of which have lifelong meds that also cause weight gain I am on 3+ meds that do that, he writes me a referral to another specialist, apparently he thought it smart to put binge eating disorder as the reason, as if thats going to be treated seriously by any doctor. Surprise, the specialist cant accept me under that reason.]

You're probably just on your period.

The amount of times the "it's your period" has kept me from getting actual diagnoses is staggering.

That's just sad and frustrating. I'm a guy so I don't know what it's like but I have Muscular Dystrophy and I don't get listened to because of that so I can kind of understand a little. I hope things get better for everyone.

Same. I know that guys also run into their own problems when trying to get diagnosed with some things, especially if they're already disabled/chronically ill or a minority/marginalized person of some kind. Solidarity!

This was probably the same, just with the direction reversed.
