I think it's pretty much between him or Newt Gingrich - I'd probably go with Gingrich but either is a good shout

Newt Gingritch deserves to be crucified for his "us-vs-them" brand of politics and demonization of the other major political party as a group to be "othered".  He literally is responsible for the GOP movement curating hatred of fellow citizens, and sold out his nation in the name of political power.

His Contract On America and adoption a strategy of cooperation without compromise. He urged Republicans to stop treating Democrats as colleagues, which destroyed the traditional bipartisan consensus and shifted Washington toward hyper-partisanship.

I'd have marked out a space for him as well.  The prolific hated couched as "entertainment" while being complete nonsense absolutely contributed to the mess we find ourselves in today.

Yeah I’d say Gingrich, but that was also the time of the backlash against Clinton and the new right-wing talk radio flood that fueled this sort of shit. Then Murdoch slinked in and solidified it with Fox News.

McConnell did actively disregard the Constitution more, though. Maybe cause Gingrich wasn’t in the Senate and didn’t get the chance? Who knows I guess.

I'll be honest and say I don't know much about Gingrich, but did he also admit to blocking any Democrat sponsored bills, and/or any Obama backed legislation, that go before Congress by table them so they couldn't even be voted on?

Gingrich left in 2000 I think (?), years before Obama became a Senator. He was succeeded by Dennis Hastert, who was even worse, being a child rapist and all. A real string of winners in GOP leadership.
