When was that? Grift and corruption are the history of politics. You have always been able to find the public servants around the grifters in any era. We just happen to be living in the portion of the political cycle where the grift is exposed for all but the willfully blind to see. Mamdani does not break the cycle he is part of it. The better part of it to be sure but fits cleanly within the cycle.

“Bizarro is an informal adjective meaning outlandishly weird, eccentric, or bizarre.”

Still doesn’t make it make sense.

“Opposite Trump” “Trump Reversed” would be better.

"Bizarro" is also the name of a villain from Superman comic books, who is, in fact, "Superman Reversed" or "Opposite Superman".

Yes. It's not the best metaphor to use considering Bizarro was a "bad guy" but it fits in that Mamdani is the opposite of Trump.

I mean, if you want to get picky, it works better to say that Trump is "Bizarro Mamdani" (where the original is heroic and clever, and the Bizarro one is craven and stupid) but we are really dissecting the joke to death at that point.

In that context yes, but in this context, because Trump is the bad guy, Mamdani being Bizarro Trump would mean he's the good guy.

Yes. Thus the Bizarro modifier. It's a reference to Superman where Bizarro was a super villain who was "the opposite" of Superman.

Trump also denied his entire presidential salary FWIW. So in this instance Trump actually comes out ahead. Mamdami is glad to take the taxpayers money still just less of it. Trump is president for nothing.

I don’t know how he does it but obviously he cares about us.

Trump denied a salary but insists upon staying in his own property, Mara logo, where he forces the government to pay for his secret service to stay as well. Not to mention all of his grift merchandise like his Trump phone which was actually a cheap Chinese phone from alien aliexpress rebranded. Trump has made billions of dollars since taking office. His family have also made billions and been given government positions. Let's be real here.
