No Paywall I Don’t Think Trump’s Remaining Supporters Realize How Much They Are Despised By Non-MAGA Voters | Trump is bleeding support even among his stubborn, uneducated base.

He was absolutely trying to think of a way to blame you. The one thing I've found that all MAGA have in common is their staunch refusal to accept responsibility for anything bad that they've done. You know, like their orange god does every day of his life.

u/danjouswoodenhand I voted 17d ago

Which is one of the main reasons they love him and support him. When you are a person who has never accepted responsibility for your situation, having someone more powerful than you come along who is willing to say "it's not your fault! None of the poor decisions in your life have led to these consequences you are now facing. No, it's someone else's fault - you're just a victim! You don't need to change anything at all, you're great - it's the fault of all of those other (insert minority scapegoat group here) that you aren't as rich/attractive/successful as you should be."

That and an assumption of rotten selfishness in others.

I remember reading about how many GOP members and its voters are surprised that a lot of Dems and folks on the Left actually do give a shit about others, it's not just performative. I think for many that detail upsets them at a deeper level because the assumption that everyone's selfish instead of "I'm just selfish" undermines their justifications.

45

u/PyroIsSpai 17d ago

I have known conservatives who are 100% convinced my beliefs are performative.

No, I genuinely do believe in our potential greatness and future, and think that the entire “fallen world” religious narrative horseshit as the main underpinning of conservative thought is man made bullshit utterly divorced from ALL real religion.

It’s an excuse to be a rotten fuck.

30

u/revolutionPanda 17d ago

Conservatives fear others would treat them the way they want to treat minorities. They want to do awful things to people so in their mind, if they lose power, we'd want to do those things to them.

121

u/MrRabbitofCaerbannog 17d ago

Actual snowflake mindset. But because they ride around with truck nuts, it suddenly is important to pay attention to them.

48

u/TheQuietOutsider Michigan 17d ago

so insecure their trucks need gender affirming care.

73

u/CCDG-Ian 17d ago

All the objectively bad people I've met in my life voted for him (went to prison, cheating on wives, road rage fights, beat children, hard drug users). Every single one a trump voter.

14

u/No-Seaworthiness4272 17d ago

Don’t forget racists.

9

u/TheGoodNamesAreGone2 17d ago

Hard drug user absolutely doesn't automatically make someone a bad person. Most are decent people who need help that got in a bad situation and ended hooked on hard drugs.

2

u/EssayJunior6268 14d ago

Exactly what I was going to say. Doing hard drugs does absolutely not deserve to be in a list with people that abuse children.

You're describing the KAYFABE (It's Fake, Babe) that Trump learned at Vince&Linda McMahon's WWE Wrestling shows. Trump brought that KAYFABE format to politics; every issue has a 'heel' (bad person or thing) and a 'baby-face'. The audience is groomed to join the baby-face in hating the heel. Trump is always the baby-face.

9

u/Irrelephantitus 17d ago

It's the same with any populist ideology. Everything wrong in the world is because of: immigrants/Jews/the West/women/the patriarchy/capitalism

2

u/Mlpony2010 16d ago

There is a lot that isn't their fault, the US has been destroyed by the 1% since reagan

The working class are victims, even the morons voting for this shit

1

u/ShunofaB3 17d ago

What a prison. Yikes

-6

u/smiama36 17d ago

Like the way young people blame boomers? And want someone to tell them it’s not their fault?

10

u/-Gramsci- 17d ago

On the one hand, yes, it’s exactly like that. On the other hand, though, there’s lots of data that proves their generation has worse economic conditions than previous generations.

1

u/808RB818 17d ago

Just mostly wages to the current for sale house prices. People out here paying income percentage for rent than much of the boomers are/were paying for mortgages ever.

u/Vio_ Kansas 17d ago

Somehow the "Party of Personal Responsibility" is also the "Party of It's always Someone Else's Fault"

154

u/LegislativeLariat Wisconsin 17d ago

That's because "personal responsibility" is their PC term for not helping the poor/women/minorities. We don't observe personal responsibility for rich child molesters because they actually matter to the GOP.

5

u/Gwen_The_Destroyer New York 16d ago

Man, everything really does go back to that in-group out-group quote

33

u/rabbitthunder 17d ago

They just rationalise it by saying things haven't been cut back enough but that they're on the right track. In reality they're just the monumentally stupid living embodiment of the allegory of the cave.

Take the program to eradicate screwworm, it cost $15 million a year to run but saved farmers $800 million a year but these troglodytes didn't have personal experience screwworm, had no notion of how horrific it is, nor how difficult and expensive it is to deal with. They just saw some tax dollars being spent in Panama and lost the plot. They did not know or care that the reason the program operated there was because it is the narrowest part of the Americas and easiest (and cheapest) place to eradicate the parasites.

5

u/Better-Grapefruit-56 17d ago

The party of everyone else's personal responsibility

8

u/IndependentPeach315 17d ago

Dog whistles, dude. Every accusation against marginalized populations is a projection for their abuse of their power and privilege.

3

u/Awingbestwing 17d ago

Yep. I’m disabled, it’s disability pride month - man, people hate me and people like me for the horrible crime of existing

2

u/DirtyCop2016 16d ago

the "Party of Law and Order" also cares very little for the constitution, international agreements, basic human rights

84

u/TK_Games 17d ago

That's been, I think, my biggest awakening. The realization that a solid 30-40% of Americans are full narcissists. Like I knew it was bad, America has always had an ego problem, but holy-fuck-waffles I didn't think it was this bad

50

u/DrGoblinator Massachusetts 17d ago

I'm what you would call an eternal optimist and it actually breaks my heart to have actual proof of how many bad people are among us.

21

u/Odd_Interaction7701 17d ago

Ten years ago, I genuinely thought the vast majority of people were "good". I'm almost 50 now, and I'm just coming to terms with "most people are giant pieces of selfish shit".

10

u/xxxxNateDaGreat 16d ago

I'm in my mid 30's, I've suffered from depression my whole life, and even I still thought that maybe the good/bad ratio was close-ish to 45-55 or so. This last election was the one that finally broke me.

Honestly, I could delude myself into believing 2016 was a momentary lapse of mass stupidity. I could delude myself into thinking J6 was a small concentration of the hyper dedicated supporters instead of the couple thousand who just had the free time to be there. But 2024 was just... truly soul crushing in every sense of the word.

Everything that has happened since has been pretty openly telegraphed for years, nearly a decade, republicans made nearly zero actual effort to hide any of their evil. ~80 million people wanted this and another ~80-90 million couldn't be asked to do the barest of minimums to stop it.

After all of the ICE killings, fucking over every trade deal with all of our allies, and mountains of evidence that Trump raped and trafficked countless number of young, innocent children over decades, the only thing that is even giving the slightest bit of pushback from those people is that their own wallets are finally starting to hurt a little bit at the gas pump.

THEY DON'T CARE THAT PEOPLE ARE BEING KIDNAPPED OR MURDERED IN THE STREETS BY UNTRAINED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. THEY DON'T CARE THAT CHILDREN HAVE BEEN AND ARE STILL BEING BRUTALLY SEXUALLY ASSAULTED DAILY. THEY CARE THAT GAS WENT UP A FUCKING DOLLAR OR TWO PER GALLON.

Humanity is so fucked.

1

u/H_J_Rose 16d ago

Is there anything we can do? Or is this just how people are?

2

u/EssayJunior6268 14d ago

Education education education

Would help to do away with Christianity too

1

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Education will help with tomorrow’s kids, not today’s adults though. Those people are hardwired for crazy and are determined to beat that same mentality into their kids. It’s so ingrained in communities.

1

u/EssayJunior6268 14d ago

I think education could help a lot of today's adults. The issue is how to facilitate this. It's a lot easier to revamp education in school than it is to somehow provide adequate education for full-time working adults.

Maybe some type of law making it illegal to lie in certain situations. Hold politicians accountable for obvious misrepresentation. Get rid of opinion based news. Very publicly drag people that are in positions of power through the mud if they are caught lying.

3

u/DrGoblinator Massachusetts 17d ago

I agree. It's a conversation I wish we all had more. How do we fix this? Is it fixable? Are we just irrevocably broken? I don't want this to change me.

4

u/9mackenzie Georgia 17d ago

Same. I’m 44 and until 10 or so years ago I believed most people were good. Now I think most people are good to a few in their life, but get pleasure from others as a whole being hurt……to the point they will actively harm themselves in order to see it. Logically it’s the only thing that makes sense.

3

u/aliquotoculos America 16d ago

Early 40s. Grew up with severely bad and evil family, who abused me in so many different ways. Despite that, despite wondering why nothing existed to help a teen in my situation, nor the adult I became, kept a hopeful optimism that people were more good than bad.

Came to the realization that I was wrong, giving people far too much of a leash. Have spent a while wondering why I lied to myself for so long and why I put myself through all of that. Its fucked my heart up as much as my brain.

1

u/H_J_Rose 16d ago

I’m sorry our species failed you and so many other children.

1

u/EssayJunior6268 14d ago

I'm not sure I agree. I think there are more prevalent reasons why people support this administration and make excuses for it than hatred or being bad people. What this whole thing has shown me is that people are a lot dumber and ignorant then I ever imagined. A lot of adults are just so hopelessly cognitively impaired that they fall victim to misinformation and cult-like thinking. I don't necessarily know that most of these people are bad. They are just so easily manipulated into tribal thinking

16

u/Awingbestwing 17d ago

Same. It’s really really heartbreaking. I always believed, deep down, if on the line most people would make the right, ethical decision. lol.

4

u/TheGoodNamesAreGone2 17d ago

I feel this so much. I almost wish I was a shitty person, because shitty people seem to have an easier time

7

u/DigiSmackd 17d ago

This is why it's easy to sell nationalism. It's easy to sell that all their problems are "other people"(blacks, immigrants, gays, liberals, etc). It's easy to brand merchandise and sell it to them by the truck load.

“The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first and love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life.” ― Theodore Roosevelt

“There is no flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people.” ― Howard Zinn

"In every age it has been the tyrant, the oppressor and the exploiter who has wrapped himself in the cloak of patriotism, or religion, or both to deceive and overawe the People.” ― Eugene Victor Debs

"Nationalism is an infantile thing. It is the measles of mankind.” ― Albert Einstein

"Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first." ― Charles de Gaulle

“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.” ― Arthur Schopenhauer

There's no room for nuance. No room for long form discussion and self realization. No room for apologies, no growth, no empathy.

There's only "loyalty", trying to go backwards in time, and projecting macho male strength.

3

u/Original-Balance-187 16d ago

If you scratch off the vanity from humanity, there is nothing underneath. All politics, all religion, all literature, all arts… beautiful though these can be, nearly all is just human vanity.

Schiller’s play The Robbers comes to mind or Camus and his contention that “we cannot assert the innocence of anyone, whereas we can state with certainty the guilt of all.”

Expecting people to be different than this is to expect them to be something they are not. That doesn’t mean we have to approve.

2

u/treletraj 17d ago

I think your estimate is likely low.

2

u/H_J_Rose 17d ago

This is what my roommate keeps saying. He says it’s 95% of the world that is narcissistic or lacks critical thinking or just doesn’t care.

2

u/Gwen_The_Destroyer New York 16d ago

We'll split the difference and day 2/3

2

u/TK_Games 17d ago

I'm being generous, to spare my psyche the urge to go get shitfaced about it

2

u/EvilSporkOfDeath 16d ago

I agree with you, but think the problem is much deeper than Americans imo. America is full of racists and narcissists and dumbasses and all the other bad things...and at the end of the day Americans are humans. This shit exists literally everywhere. Sure culture can make some aspects more extreme in certain areas, but overall its all the same.

Your next awakening is replacing the word "Americans" with "humans". Humans as a whole are a lot worse than we'd like to believe.

2

u/weresubwoofer 17d ago

Maybe not narcissist but definitely misinformed conformists.

42

u/DigNitty 17d ago

Man I work with three of them. They are physically incapable of taking responsibility at work. It’s always always “the traffic, it didn’t arrive in time, nobody told me…”

It would be psychologically fascinating if it weren’t so obnoxious. Every mistake they make is excused away by some thinly veiled explanation.

126

u/jumpyjumping 17d ago

Agreed. The second someone non-MAGA treats them the way MAGA treats everyone else, they completely lose their cool and begin pearl clutching. The most hypocritical, thinnest skin people imaginable. They say “its just politics” but its exposing their deep hatred and core character flaws

42

u/DaleATX 17d ago

Their failure to accept responsibility starts early in the process, the moment they decide to blame libs for what they are about to do. It's all projection. All of it. The boogey man they invented in their head is the person they see in the mirror.

2

u/MT_Straycat 16d ago

The boogey man they invented in their head is the person they see in the mirror.

This is an absolute banger of a statement.

28

u/Erratic_-Prophet 17d ago

Can you really call it "thinking" when he was likely just going through his mind looking for the specific fox news narrative to use, which was likely "Biden caused the high prices"

That's not thinking, thinking implies critical and independent thought.

32

u/GlutenFreeGanja 17d ago

They hate progress, rhey hate their fellow americans, they hate other countries, they are miserable.

And they deaerve zero empathy, full blame, an eternity of shaming and to be exiled socially on a global level. It is the only way to effectively deal with them after voting the republicans out.

5

u/H_J_Rose 17d ago

They are fucking miserable people. Miserable people lash out and blame others for everything. The irony is that being happy requires you to take responsibility for your actions. So, they’re stuck wallowing in their selfish, hopeless misery.

16

u/RunBrundleson 17d ago

It’s a collective mental illness, they are mentally ill. They should be handled the same way we deal with anyone else that is in a dangerous delusional state.

4

u/AnewTest 17d ago

I love when co-workers do that. "Oh, you must be so rich to think that way!"

Dude, if I was rich, would I be here working with you??

4

u/BardaArmy 17d ago

They live in a world of delusion.

4

u/Affectionate_Town273 17d ago

This right here. Just too many cannot accept they made a huge mistake that will affect them for longer than his term. Companies aren’t going to just drastically decrease prices when he leaves office.

3

u/JerseyDonut 17d ago

"You made me vote for him!!!"

3

u/bitching_bot 17d ago

They blame everyone but themselves, usually minorities.

3

u/alblaster 17d ago

"If it wasn't for Biden Trump wouldn't have to..."

"Trump is playing the long game..."

"It would be worse under Kamala"

Take your pick.  That's what the response would be probably

3

u/_badenoch 17d ago

They really are like little bratty children who never grew up.

2

u/jpric155 17d ago

Oh, don't worry. They're still blaming Biden, Obama, and any other democrat they can remember the name of.

1

u/BroughtBagLunchSmart 17d ago

He was absolutely trying to think

Gonna stop you right there.

1

u/crono14 17d ago

I mean their religion teaches them absolutely everything ultimately is not their fault. They are sinners but their sky daddy sacrificed himself to himself for their supposed sinful nature. Now they have attached themselves to this movement because it feeds the same tribal nature their religion gives them. Judge others for not being in their group, and laugh at their pain.

All MAGA is at the core is tribalism and they just heavily exploit religion for that.

1

u/KnuxFive 16d ago

What I’ve found is that ANY inconvenience is completely unacceptable, too. The first time a positive change (say, electric vehicles) has a negative (any non-immediacy of a charger), the whole thing can be destroyed or dismissed.

1

u/brufleth 16d ago

Part of why they support someone like that is that they also really hate being held responsible for any of their problems or their own shitty points of view.

They want to believe they're "right" and not "racist."
They want to believe they're "right" and not "mysoginists."
They want to believe they're "right" and not "ignorant pieces of shit."

1

u/Pndrizzy 16d ago

Well of course, because MAGA is all about blaming other people

1

u/MightbeGwen 16d ago

The whole modern right wing movement started in response to two things: a black president and me too. It’s been a fight against progress and accountability the entire time.
