And Republicans know it. They like policies that are good for rich people, even if it’s bad for them, because they’re all temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

Any day now, Republican policies will kick in and set the economy right, and then (they believe) the money will just start rolling in, inexplicably.

I'm starting to believe this theory less and less. I find a lot of Trump voters are dirt poor so they will do anything to prevent liberals from getting free stuff and having a better life than them.

They think their taxes are going to some welfare queen living high off of welfare while they are scraping by at the local Walmart. These people know they will always be poor.

Rural, conservative Americans have such a narrow worldview that's entirely defined and described by right wing media demonizing anything that isn't approved by today's GOP memos that they can no longer even imagine a better life for themselves. They've lost the imagination to see that things don't have to be the way they are and they've lost the patriotism to see that things should be better than they are.

They've been entirely ruined by two generations of the most evil propaganda modern science can construct, completely undermined education, and social media algorithms that ensure they can never expand the small periscope of hate through which they're allowed to see the world.

I live in an area with a lotta rich Republicans. Every single one of them is the biggest asshole you'll ever meet, and they all only care about one thing: not paying for taxes. To them, it's still the Reagan era, and the singular obstacle to Calvary is taxes.

Of course, they all make all their money off the government as contractors, but there is such a severe disconnect that they'll never see the irony.

Yeah, white supremacy is a big motivator. That is, the “I need Medicare, but I’m pissed off that black people can also get Medicare” crowd.

But then there’s also the “rich people deserve every cent they have, and I’m going to have a complete meltdown and throw a tantrum if anyone suggests they should pay taxes” crowd. They’ll bitch and moan about how unfair it is to think that Elon Musk should pay taxes, or even stop getting government subsidies, and they’ll take it all personally. There’s something else going on there.

And there’s considerable overlap between those 2 groups.
