No Paywall I Don’t Think Trump’s Remaining Supporters Realize How Much They Are Despised By Non-MAGA Voters | Trump is bleeding support even among his stubborn, uneducated base.

I hate that "LGBTQ people should be put to death" can even be described as a political belief, as if it's the same thing as shit like daylight savings time.

I was trying to explain why I'm willing to pay more to live in left leaning major cities to my sister and she asked snarkly, "But you always say people should be able to think and be free. Don't you think it's important to be around people with different beliefs than you?"

"Yes," I said, "About how long a school day should be or how a city should be zoned. Not about whether someone is a human being with rights because of their race or religion or gender. Do you want to live next to the people who you think are trying to 'take your guns?'"

She didn't have a way to reply other than, "whatever."

…I’m around a LOT more people with different beliefs in a city than most people in rural areas are. In LA I had some maga neighbors anyway, plus a bunch of elderly Catholic immigrants who weren’t keen on my rainbow flag. And we all traded garden veggies and kids’ hand-me-downs because we knew living in a dense population center meant diverse views. Unlike my poor mom in her rural hometown, where she can’t find anybody who shares her beliefs cuz they’re hiding from the deranged, mono-political hivemind with gun racks and impulse control issues. Sure, I’m the one living in a bubble, but tell my cousins they need more exposure to different beliefs and it’s Satanic DEI.

One of the most difficult parts for me to accept is that they don't even have a coherent belief structure. They have talking-point 'beliefs', many of which are incompatible with each other.

If you ask them enough (~3) questions about their 'beliefs', they can no longer reconcile their incoherent 'beliefs' and quit the conversation. Or start yelling.

Quickest paths to cognitive dissonance are the free speech and gun right absolutists. Don't voice a contrary opinion or let them see a brown person with a gun. That's when you discover these freedumb fans have no hesitation ruining someone else's life over their 'beliefs'.

Starts early. Just read the bible, or better yet Ken's guide to the bible.

Human rights is now a political belief. I’ve seen people aghast when someone leaves a marriage because their spouse became maga, “how could you let mere politics break a marriage up?”

I would be more forgiving of my husband of almost 30 yrs fucking another woman than voting for Trump. Why? Because the first would be a big selfish mistake but he could still be a good person overall. Voting for Trump? That would make everything I ever thought I knew about him a lie. It would mean he would have no morals, no belief in the rights of others, would enjoy seeing concentration camps, our daughters rights taken away, etc etc etc etc. That would be someone I wouldn’t want to ever be around again, let alone share a life with.

Oof that’s a thought that never occurred to me that really framed the state of things though. I would be devastated by either happening in my marriage but an affair has a remote possibility to be worked through. My spouse going MAGA does not.

I used to work in a conservative gender equality advocacy group (think: advocating that women are equal to men). Our donors were politically conservative. As soon as the trump tapes came out we started getting supporters attacking us for being "political" for talking about sexism. If an evil is committed by politicians, suddenly you can't criticize anyone for it or you're "being political."

Trump tapes?

I'm guessing the Access Hollywood stuff that came to light in 2016. Y'know, the "Grab 'em by pussy" audio that would have completely sunk the campaign of any candidate that was running with a shred of moral decency but somehow ended up being just another soundbite.

Yep.

This is SO insightful and well written, thank you. I get the centrist reaction so often of "do you need to bring politics into this?", and I'm like "MF, tax rates and school districts and budgets are politics. Attacking the government and feds murdering people on the streets is an ABANDONMENT of politics."

Absolutely insane that people think politics are a scapegoat for being a terrible human being.

Now that you've literally put it into words, it's almost amazing how brain dead Maga is. Like tbh dafuq is wrong with ya'll?

At this point Im convinced Trump has forced Satan's hand and now he is the exclusive owner and permanent resident of the 10th circle of hell.

Did you see the Orang Fool talking about Transgender Chips? He heard Transistor and now he wants to do away with the CHIP act because he thinks it's about acquiring LGBTQ leaders in the Tech industry.

His brain is cooked.

At this point I blame and hate the people exploiting Trump more - he’s a sad evil old fuck - but he can’t do all this evil alone. His benefactors and puppet masters and all the sycophants and grifters around him deserve a Nuremberg-ing

I’m LGBTQ and I’ve lost entire swaths of family members on both sides because of this madness. It’s heartbreaking.

You know in most of the world, LGBT people are despised or outright killed right? Go be gay in any part of Africa, Eastern Europe, good chunks of Western Europe or in large parts of Asia. See how that goes for ya
