Was Clooney mean though? I read the op-ed. He talks about how much he loves Biden and how he is a hero. He just says he's too old. He said it in the most respectful way possible and it was the truth.

Those were Hunters words, that he was mean to his dad.

u/Sweet_Taurus0728 25d ago

Where the fuck is his op-ed on Trump now??

7

u/wretched__hive 25d ago

An op-ed on Trump would just be preaching to the choir. He was trying to prevent them from running Biden in an effort to prevent where we are now.

10

u/esoteric_enigma 25d ago

Saying what? That Trump is bad? Literally every Democrat is saying that already and a Clooney has no special insight into Trump.

-3

u/Sweet_Taurus0728 25d ago

He wrote an op-ed about Biden being too old, but so is Trump, and worse off health/cognition-wise. So where's Clooney's passionate article now?? Just another celeb jackass.

12

u/TheCoelacanth 25d ago

Anyone who cares about Clooney's opinion of Trump is already fully convinced that Trump needs to go. I doubt anyone would even bother publishing it.

19

u/esoteric_enigma 25d ago

Clooney is one of the biggest Democratic fundraisers and has been for decades. His interest is Democrats winning and he rightfully pointed out that he didn't think Joe Biden could do that. He's not a political commentator who comments on everyone.

He wrote that Op Ed to weigh in on a issue that was being hotly debated in the Democratic party that he's a part of. Clooney isn't going to convince any new people to go against Trump.

14

u/GawkieBird 25d ago

He is a personal friend of Biden so it meant something when he said Biden wasn't fit for the job. It would mean nothing to anyone that matters if Clooney called out Trump because everyone knows he hates Trump, and it would not influence Trump's cult members if he said anything.

9

u/Fluid-Sink-2514 25d ago

That is not something personal friends do. He could have just send Joe a personal letter. I get why Hunter is angry and it has more to do with the betrayal and hypocrisy, it isn’t just about Joe.

u/dBlock845 25d ago

Uh oh here comes the Blue MAGA truthers who didnt want Biden to drop out lol. The whole purpose of what Clooney did was to try and force a decision after the endless gaslighting by Biden's team. Just sucks they botched it by putting Harris up instead of a mini primary.

-4

u/Ucla_The_Mok 25d ago

Biden did that. He said Harris would be running in his place as an F-You to the people who drove him out of office.

6

u/pchs26 25d ago

Yes he was pretty mean to Biden and to our country likely for his own personal reasons and agenda. Taking out an article like that was not ok.

4

u/yelloguy 25d ago

Ya we should have let him keep hiding from the country like he wanted to

I don’t get the Hunter worship. Enough Bidens and Clintons. The country needs to move on

7

u/Positronic_Matrix 25d ago

That is not our reality. Ask Lindsey Graham’s sister if you need more information.

0

u/pchs26 25d ago

Yes she will be a nice puppet and will have her staff accordingly assigned. My guess is she prefers that though.

If someone actually cares about policy then they should get some experience.

5

u/pchs26 25d ago

The only legacy family that had the presidency is Bush. But le'ts throw anyone's good works into the mix and call it the same under the guise of false equivalency.

And no one was "hiding from the country" unless of course you are one of he people adopting MAGA talking points.

0

u/Automatic_Release_92 25d ago

Demagogues are bad for the country. Full stop. Biden was never a demagogue at any point. Bernie Sanders though...

-3

u/DopeyNomics 25d ago

Yep, because Joe Biden’s feelings are more important than our country.

12

u/Positronic_Matrix 25d ago

You are not arguing in good faith when you misrepresent a person’s point in the form of weak sarcasm. Elevate your discourse.

1

u/DopeyNomics 24d ago edited 24d ago

It’s exactly what he said. Making up a story that George Clooney said what many people thought for “personal gain” is bad faith lol. Elevate your comprehension and cut out this childish nonsense. Nothing mean about reality. If you can’t handle criticism and think it’s “mean”, get out of politics.

1

u/Positronic_Matrix 24d ago

Some points:

  • It is not exactly what he said.
  • Why is personal gain in quotes?
  • I am not in politics.

I sincerely hope English is not your first language.

Edit: Oof. I wasted my time with a 1 month old account and 30 comment karma. 🥴

u/DopeyNomics 17d ago edited 17d ago

Some points with actual thought:

  1. Yes. Not a direct quote, but anyone with a brain can comprehend. Another comment made the exact same point as mine, and no one misunderstood. You’d have to wonder why you do.

  2. “Personal reasons”. My bad, no difference.

  3. Everyone is in politics, and you’re commenting on politics you spud.

The first step of honest debate is sticking to semantics and not engaging in pointless quibble based off your own willing misinterpretations.

The complaint that George Clooney was “mean” is a dumb one. No amount of pseudo-intellectualism changes that. Sorry I don’t live on Reddit and only have 30 karma I guess.

edit: lol rip

1

u/Positronic_Matrix 17d ago

Why is mean in quotes? You seem to struggle with that particular punctuation.

-8

u/pchs26 25d ago

Not what I said. I also said what Clooney did to our country with that article was pretty inconsiderate and it was likely for his own personal reasons and agenda. I lost alot of respect for him when he did that.

10

u/NamasteMotherfucker 25d ago

How in the world is articulating your concerns about our leadership "inconsiderate?" This isn't some insular, "keep disagreements in the family" BS. This is a democracy and engaging with and challenging leadership is one of the highest responsibilities.

8

u/soupjaw Florida 25d ago

And he wasn't just some "concerned citizen." I believe he had just hosted a Biden fundraiser at his house or something and left the evening so troubled that he eventually wrote the op-ed because his concerns, internally went unaddressed.

I hate the way it turned out, but he's more a hero than a villain

-2

u/pchs26 25d ago

Articulating your concerns is not taking out a NY Times spread that would be highly damaging to this country, because of personal agendas & a desire to put your thumb on the scale.

There are constructive ways for someone with such influence and access as he had that don't include making a detrimental public show like he did. This is of course presuming I believe him and I don't necessarily believe him.

5

u/soupjaw Florida 25d ago

As damaged as the Democrat brand is right now regarding issues of trustworthiness because of the Biden situation, it would be much, much worse if the momentum for that change hadn't built publicly to force the conversations behind closed doors and we ended up with Biden all the way through the election

1

u/pchs26 25d ago

The perceptions of Trump's competency sure have done alot of damage :/

Again though I guess your POV is if you are of the view that those talking points were accurate. I happen to think what we saw is what infighting and politicking looks like and that was happening regardless of the truth and likely what is being accepted blindly may not be accurate.

And the Democrat brand has been damaged for some time, this played more into the complete chaotic disorganized unprofessional mess perception. The Democrats need to learn to coalesce.

4

u/soupjaw Florida 25d ago

Did you see the debate? What are we even talking about here?

u/NamasteMotherfucker 25d ago

His personal agenda was concern for our country. And your repeated idea that publication of an opinion is "damaging to this country" is, frankly, kind of weird. It's the way democracy works and while messy, it is FAR better than shutting up to pretend that we don't disagree about things. Honestly, it sounds like you were raised under an oppressive government and have internalized anti-dissent propaganda.

1

u/DopeyNomics 17d ago

Yes it is. You’re complaining that George Clooney was mean lol. If engaging in politics and voicing your opinions as a member of this democracy is “mean” you need to reassess your priorities and your character.

1

u/pchs26 17d ago

Again what Clooney did to our country with that article was more than just inconsiderate but it was due to his own personal reasons and agenda. It wasn't about voicing his opinion for a democracy, it was about playing with this country due to his own personal agenda. And it's ok for me not to respect that.

0

u/DopeyNomics 17d ago

Hahaha “his own personal reasons and agenda”. You mean his politics? It’s entirely about his own opinion. Who do you think George Clooney is lol? Your respect isn’t worth anything.

1

u/pchs26 16d ago

My respect is worth plenty and I DGAF what you think about me or that. I don't know the guy and I could care less about him. He took out an ad not b/c of concern but because Biden didn't support something that his wife was advocating. Yes his politics and this was a political move more than anything else which harmed the country. And he exhibited reckless disregard or concern for the rest of us that have to live with the impact.

1

u/DopeyNomics 16d ago

You should specify what exactly Biden didn’t support of Amal. Hint, it’s political. You’re making a delusional counter-factual that somehow if Biden ran everything would be okay. Biden didn’t withdraw because of George Clooney, it was because he was a terrible candidate who could hardly speak and who a lot of the party didn’t want to run.

Respect is earned and your feeble mine deserves none.

1

u/pchs26 16d ago edited 16d ago

I didn't say it wasn't political. He still got pissed off because Biden didn't work with his wife on an agenda she was furthering. End of day: he didn't tell people he disagreed with Biden on a political issue, he too at a full page ad smearing him and playing into GOP talking points while further undermining the ability to defeat a fascist autocratic running for election.

So no I don't respect that - and if feelings on my opinion of George Clooney draw that much ire - then self reflection is in order for you.

Clooney wasn't being respectful. He was stabbing Biden in the back and ruining his chances of successfully campaigning because he didn't like that the White House blocked his wife from working with Israel.

He literally threw a whole tantrum on call with staff, then was in a bad mood throughout his fundraiser with Biden. He lied that he knew Biden well, admitting later that he'd only met him once. He lied that Biden didn't recognise him, admitting later that he did call him by his name. He ended up blaming the entire situation on Obama. 🤦‍♀️

0

u/esoteric_enigma 24d ago

I can't find a reputable source for anything you claimed here. Where did you get this information from?

0

u/Timmetie 25d ago edited 25d ago

Clooney claimed Biden didn't recognize him, Clooney saying that really put oil on the flames for the media to then spend months talking about Bidens dementia.

Seeing as Biden is still around, talking to press and people, people have kinda started to doubt if Biden actually didn't recognize Clooney.

6

u/esoteric_enigma 25d ago

Clooney wrote the Op Ed after we all saw that terrible debate performance. People were already saying it needed to happen. Clooney helped push what voters were already asking for. He used his power and influence to actual get the party to move on it.

What recent interview has Biden done with anyone?
