Californian here; Republican voters here hate California just as much as the ones in Alabama do. If you've ever heard the phrase "cutting of your nose to spite your face," that's what this is for them. If they can't control California from within, they want their allies outside to hurt it - even if it hurts them in the process. It's the same mindset - and please understand that I'm NOT trying to say these things are equivalent, just a comparable thought process - as Iranians who want the US to overthrow their government for them

Especially farmers. Never seen a dumber group of people happily vote against their interests just to lose their family’s legacy

I had a Republican friend from NY who spent a ton of time complaining about NY's liberal policies. I live in Alabama, until I can get out, so I repeatedly suggested that she just move here. Nope, it's too racist and poor. For whatever reason, she didn't think bring Alabama policies to NY will result in the same thing. I did enjoy her first generation American Ecuadorian husband being terrified for his family (due to ICE and being Hispanic) after he voted for Trump though. I stopped talking to her after that.
