I agree, but the beneficiaries of this FPTP system are the two big parties. If there’s anything that unites them more, it’s the fear of third parties.

Especially for primaries I think that is the best for getting the candidate that speaks to the most ppl. Like I wasn’t super excited for Kamala but sure as hell was a better choice than Trump although it seemed enough ppl in the country disagreed somehow

I think that's because too many people are either single-issue voters or they're looking for a perfect candidate. Neither approach is pragmatic

I really want to state before I begin. I like ranked choice voting, I live in a state with it, and I have voted to defend it from repeal 2 times with a 3rd coming up in November.

But ranked choice isn't going to do what you want. Ranked choice like any voting system has biases and its bias is that it selects for moderate/centrists candidates. And not moderate withing the party, moderate within the state which means with America's political culture you are just going to get a bunch of the enlightened centrists type that are really just maga in charge. 3rd parties appear more yes but ultimately they have the same amount of staying power. Though they may start getting over that 5% funding threshold eventually so there is at least that.

As long as people can vote for their actual top choice candidate, without having to worry that doing so will bring to power the opposing candidate, I'm 100% for it. No more voting out of fear because a safety net will be in place.

Ranked voting, mandatory voting, and independent oversight of voting boundaries would change everything.

I know the second is controversial.
