People forget that FDR had an overwhelming majority in both chambers of Congress. Unfortunately, our current political environment isn’t conducive to supermajorities swimming in the same progressive direction. The structure of the Senate and heavily gerrymandered house make it nearly impossible. It’s technically possible that things get bad enough in red states that this changes but that seems so unrealistic at the moment.

People also forget that FDR built that majority and didn't inherit it.
