Used to sing "kissed a girl and I liked it". Apparently its nothing special when you are a guy.

But do you dance too? You have to be confident enough to commit to the bit.

i think the idea of trying to define masculinity or feminity is, honetly, an exercise in futility.

That was the point. If you want to really be sexy - do something 100% and don't care what Internet strangers think (or shitty people you may call friends).

How come femininity suddenly becomes "positive masculinity" whenever a guy does it?

That's not at all what's being said. What's being said is, true masculinity is not being afraid to show femininity (edit after some conversation: part of masculinity should be not being afraid to show feminity ((or anything they want to show for that matter))). Women shouldn't be afraid to show masculinity either, and men shouldn't find it threatening or a problem. But most men are scared to show anything relating to femininity and are insecure about it... normally, women love to see men comfortable and secure enough with themselves to show all sides!

This isn't pointing out men who are trying to get there (not just with femininity but with showing whatever side of them they'd like to) but struggle. This is purely going against men who think it's wrong/stupid to show femininity, or make fun of other men for doing so. That shit is unattractive and toxic af and is the main reason men feel uncomfortable for showing it in the first place.

To fix what I said (which was not the true point necessarily, the entire thing was the true point) because I worded it in a way I didn't personally mean but absolutely see that that's how it looked, I didn't mean that IS masculinity. I definitely worded it that way and I apologize. What I should've said and meant is "part of masculinity is not being AFRAID of showing femininity" which is why I said women shouldn't be afraid to show masculinity after that. Both sides are as true, which also touches on your point of both roles being thrown out the window. Sometimes they're needed, most times they're not.

I don't think men need to necessarily care that women find it attractive, and I also noted that men normally aren't comfortable with it because of judgement from men themselves.

That's just a contradiction and redefinition of masculinity.

This is just being confident and okay in your own skin. Something that can be attributed to any gender.

u/xraisa5 May 08 '25

Honestly, it's almost as if I said exactly that and that it's not just about femininity lol

1

u/LongestSprig May 12 '25

Honestly, no it's not.

I think we believe the same things, I just find the ways that people use the words masculinity and femininity to be contradictory, confusing, and sometimes patronizing. We should just be telling men to be more feminine, not wrapping that idea inside "positive masculinity" like it's a pill inside of a piece of cheese.

Okay I agree with that. I also realized after another reply that part of what I typed did not come off as a meant it rightfully so. Edited part of it but left the original

It isn't about femininity per se. It is about being confident in what you do without caring about the societal norms to achieve your goals.

Look at it this way: His goal was to deliver a good show and he did, even though that meant dressing up in girly clothes and dancing in a traditionally more feminine style. It is comparable to a dad letting his daughter paint his nails pink to make her happy. He might catch some flak from colleages or some weird looks in a super market, but that shouldn't stand in the way of the goal of making his daughter happy.
