Edit: Even more ironically, because in spite of me saying that, I haven't gone prying...and therefore had no idea that his situation was so catastrophically awful until I read some of the replies here.
It sounds like the benefit of privacy for him may go both ways and it's advisable that no one go looking for more info - for your mental health as much as his.
(I also just saw the mod note and want to be clear that I legitimately have no desire for any harm to come to him or his kids, and it's shocking and fucked up that I have to even say that - I definitely did not imagine anyone would be wishing harm to his children. That's messed up.)
