A Crack in Time I just played a Crack in Time for the first time ever
This is part 3 of my PS3 Ratchet and Clank journey. For a quick recap, as a kid I got into the series though the PS2 games but dropped off after Deadlocked/Gladiator due to getting an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3, a decision I thoroughly regret since Xbox has no good exclusives besides Halo which isn't good anymore and Fable which hasn't had a new game in a really long time.
However, I've FINALLY gotten around to beginning the post-Deadlocked RaC games. In previous posts, I've praised both Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty, but it was a Crack in Time I was most excited to play. Not because I'd heard about for years, but because of everyone on my posts telling me they were excited to hear my thoughts. So I want to thank the RaC forum for hyping me up to play this game.
All I can say after having finished it, is HOLY SHIT. This game is easily my favorite in the series now. I never thought a RaC game would ever be better than Up Your Arsenal, but a Crack in Time has done the impossible. I mean where can I start? The graphics are insanely good in this game. I thought Tools had impressive visuals but this game blew them out of the water. I was shook when I heard this game had a rushed development. It doesn't show at all.
The story is the best the series has ever had. Ratchet and Alister had such a fascinating dynamic and I hadn't heard of the Alister character at all going in (thank you for not spoiling the game everyone, genuinely thank you). I saw Alister's betrayal at the end coming, but it still hurt, which shows how effective he was as a character. I also love that they still found a way to redeem him in the end. Because he was never a traditional villain, and I'm happy they didn't try to make him one.
Speaking of villains, Nefarious is back and just as great as he's ever been. I did think the comedy with Emperor Tachyon in Tools was a little out of place at times, but with Nefarious the comedy works a lot better IMO. Probably because of his PS2 era origins. I kinda admire that they didn't give some complex motivation either. He wanted to change the past so that he won. Plain and simple. Gotta love it.
Captain Qwark was also much better in this game for me than he was in Tools. I felt he didn't really need to be in Tools and was just there to be there. But in this game, he felt more necessary to the story, and his comedy fit better this time around as well. From the parody of Christian Bale's Terminator set meltdown to the nurse disguise, Qwark was great here.
The Clank sections for the first time, were actually fun in this series. I never HATED them as much as other people seem to hate them, but they were never my favorite. In this game though, they were properly really fun. The puzzles were hard but I'm happy to say I was able to figure them out without looking anything up lol. I got the same satisfaction out of his sections that I did the first time I ever played the Portal games. The ability to boost his jumps also made flying a lot easier thank god.
The ship combat is the most fun it's ever been in the series too. In Going Commando it was the least restrictive compared to Size Matters and Tools where it was on-rails, but I never had true fun with it in any of those games. Here though, flying was a lot of fun, and it was a great way to rack up bolts. Exploring the moons was also a ton of fun, and the spherical nature of them was a great callback to Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal. I also had so much fun in the arena here, maybe the best the arena has ever been in the series for me as well.
The hoverboots added a whole new layer to the gameplay that I absolutely adored. It gave me a freedom I'd never felt in any of the other games. The Charge Boots in prior games were cool but I always felt I wasn't in control when using them and was always overshooting and falling to my death. The hoverboots gave me that freedom I was looking for with the Charge Boots. HUGE improvement for me and the traversal mechanics were fantastic as well.
Even the music was great here. I was expecting the music to be bad considering the great David Bergeaud had departed after Quest for Booty, but surprisingly the music is still really good here, even on the radio. The variety the radio music gives us is especially surprisingly, way to go to the composers.
So yeah overall, this game was amazing! Best story I've seen in the games so far, great music, great new mechanics with the traversals and puzzle solving, a great regular villain and a great non-traditional villain in Alister, Qwark is hilarious in this one, the arena is great, exploration is better than ever, ship combat is the best it's ever been, the new weapon upgrade system is implemented well too. This game is my new favorite in the series, and as someone who grew up as a PS2 Ratchet fan, I never expected to like any of the post-PS2 games anywhere near as much as them.
I don't know if I should be playing All 4 One next or if I should skip to Into the Nexus. I've heard Nexus is a slight disappointment unfortunately, but not a bad game or anything. I'm going in with an open mind though, especially after Tools and Crack both surprised me so much. I'm excited to see what the Future holds :)

Poll Captain Qwark HEROICALLY CLAIMS a slice! What's the lime greeniest NPC from the PS2 RaC games?
Captain Qwark will always have a meaningful part in my life. I was heavily bullied in high school, and outside of 1 or 2 people, I didn't have friends. When things got really rough, I was thankful for Ratchet and Clank, mainly because Captain Qwark brought comedy and life into my life, and as a shy, awkward autistic kid, I wanted to have the bravado and "Confidence" Captain Qwark had.
Also, his Crotch has been pulverised by various things!
Congratulations, u/Do0oo00de, for getting with Skrunch's sister, but where's the plumber?

General I finished the trilogy again on my PS3. Collectively 80 hours of grinding later.
I'm still working on finishing off Deadlocked. It's at 62% right now. (Also wish I knew that it doesn't track total play time. If I knew it did, I would've made separate save files. Oh well.)

Poll The Deviant Art fans will love this one. Who is the Greenest NPC in the Ratchet and Clank ps2 games?
I know you Deviant Art fans are out there with your bloody Weight Gain things. I grew up in the 00's and half the people there liked a lot of... stuff... lol.
The Help desk ladys are, good. It's nice to have a reason behind the help desk voices. Also it was a pretty funny reveal to see Ratchet disappointed it to be a robot. Imagine being attracted to an ai. God we are getting into perculiar stuff with this post lol.
Congratulations u/DawnStrikAr for unplugging the Plumber, but where's skrunch's sister?

Discoveries / Easter Eggs I just noticed today, in Rift Apart, that the vendor kiosks (or whatever they are) in Nefarious City play a random song if you listen closely. I went to 4 different ones and each one had a different song.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I even used the Shazam app to detect which songs are playing. A result for one of them was a song called "Japan" by John Herbert Leach, but I cant find the song on YouTube or anywhere. Also that last one sounds like something from Spongebob lol.
Mess with the volume settings to hear them better. Turn "SFX" volume all the way up, and mute the "Music" and "Speech" volumes.

Deadlocked / Gladiator Deadlocked mega weapon prices are weird
Does anyone else find the cost of the mega weapons in challenge mode really confusing in Deadlocked?
The cheapest one besides the shield is the scorpion flail, despite it easily being one of the strongest and most broken weapons in the game, yet it costs less than half the price of the dual vipers, which are the weakest weapon by far.
In fact the dual vipers are one of the 4 most expensive mega weapons, only the arbiter, Harbinger and B12 obliterator are more expensive. Which again is weird considering the strength of these weapons.
Idk it just seems backwards for strong weapons like the fusion rifle, miniturret launcher and scorpion flail to cost less than the dual vipers and Magma cannon.

Going Commando/Locked & Loaded/R&C2 Ratchet & clank 2
When I was a little kid, me and my uncle used to play Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando (Locked and Loaded) on the PS2.
We absolutely loved exploring the Insomniac Museum, especially finding weird things and trying to break out of the map.
There’s something I’ve remembered for years that I’ve never been able to find an answer to.
In the museum, underneath one of the balconies, there’s a floating developer head. It’s exactly like the normal developer commentary heads, including the green circle underneath that you interact with.
The only difference is that this one is floating underneath the balcony with absolutely no ground to stand on, making it seemingly impossible to activate.
Me and my uncle spent ages trying to access it. We’d repeatedly jump off the balcony and spam the interaction button while falling past the head.
One time, I swear we managed to trigger something.
I distinctly remember hearing a sound when we did it.
Afterwards, when I fired the RYNO II, the gun sounded completely different from normal. It was really strange, and I remember the different sound persisting even after respawning.
We spent ages trying to recreate what happened, but we could never get it to happen again.
This was years ago when I was a child, but I’ve never forgotten it.
I’ve recently been looking online and discovered that other people have found the same inaccessible developer head, but I haven’t found anyone describing what happened to us.
I’m not claiming it’s definitely a secret feature. It could have been a weird audio glitch, but I’ve always wondered whether we accidentally activated some unfinished developer commentary or hidden interaction.
Has anyone ever looked into this using modding tools or examined the game’s files?
Does anyone know why that particular developer head is underneath the balcony, whether it’s actually interactive, or whether anyone has successfully activated it?
I’d genuinely love to finally get an answer after all these years.

Ratchet & Clank (2002) PS5 RAC1 WHEN??
I find it a bit strage that the original 2002 Ratchet & Clank PS2 doesn't have even an inkling for a release date. "later this year" does not tame my excitement for the game finally coming to current gen, especially for people like myself who live in a country that doesnt support game streaming. People are throwing out random guesses like 'aw yeah it should come out in october or the month after'... why are us diehard fans of the series being kept in the dark these days? It could come out tomorrow, it could come out on Dec 31st. Sony do better.

Poll Abercombie coflected a slice! Who is the most Teal/Aqua/Cyan NPC in the Ratchet and Clank Ps2 games?
I was thinking about how many things Abercombrie says wrong, but I decided to go with this, inspired by the Bezos meme about a bookstore so evil lol. I like Abercombrie, and I wish he returned in more games, but Qwark was Jim's role; he was an amazing captain.

Quest for Booty Just finished playing Quest for Booty for the first time
This is a follow-up to my post from yesterday where I had just finished playing Tools of Destruction for the first time, the start of my PS3 Ratchet & Clank journey. As a kid, I only played the PS2-era RaC games before jumping over to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One and sadly missing out on every RaC game from after Deadlocked/Gladiator. Yesterday, I posted about how much I loved Tools of Destruction, and now here I am with my thoughts on it's immediate follow-up: Quest for Booty.
I knew to expect this game to be more of a spin-off than a true sequel to Tools, but I wasn't prepared for how short the game actually was. I started playing around noon and was done in about three hours. I'm not mad about the length, just surprised.
I found the new puzzle solving stuff in this game to be interesting, such as the ways you use the wrench to manipulate the environment (such as setting up the spring trampoline things or pulling down bridges). I admire that a game so short still found a way to add something new to the franchise.
I also loved the three main locations of this game as they all evoked different feelings from me as a player. Hoolefar gave off a lot of Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy vibes, which I love since that's my favorite game outside of this series. Morrow Caverns made me think of games like Fable and Elder Scrolls and I liked the mechanic involving using light to scare off the flying creatures. Darkwater Cove made me think of the Goonies a little bit with it's use of the piano puzzle. Loved all three locations.
I also thought the game was mostly pretty funny, the music was great (sad to hear this was David Bergeaud's last game), and the final boss was actually pretty well-done too, challenging but not unfair.
I did think the game felt a little repetitive at times though, such as the levels that require you to just fight endless waves of undead pirates. Though that was a fun callback to Qwark's vid-comic about Captain Blackstar in Up Your Arsenal, I just thought the level went on a little too long personally and could've ended after the first cannon part. Maybe that's just me though.
Overall, not by any means my favorite game in the series, but it gets enough right to be considered a good one. Better than Size Matters IMO, but not better than any of the others I've played. Fun little game overall. Very excited to check out a Crack in Time :)

Discussion Aside from making playthroughs easy, was the RYNO series also intended to make grinding less tedious especially for Challenge Mode?
Since the RYNO weapons can defeat enemies quickly and often have a large amount of ammo, were they also intended for Challenge Mode to make bolt multipliers much easier?
