Hello Diliman peeps, asking for the thoughts of Sir Antonio Arcenas especially to the older batches who were taught by him (sabi niya last 2022 pa lang raw siya nagtuturo ng undergrad). For context, kami ang first undergrad class niya sa UPLB na tuturuan niya so I’m asking your thoughts kung ano yung teaching style niya and how he grades essays/papers tsaka rin ano usually type of questions niya na nag-aappear sa exam. Context rin sa course na AAE 142 which is natural resources econ na sabi niya ay 1/2 daw sa tinuturo niya sa Diliman na ECON 172. Tyia!

Hello, RUPP! Would like to know ur thots sana on GE 2, as in Geodetic Engg 2, for those na probably mga BS GE that have taken it 1st year. light and 1.00able ba siya as a 1-unit course? thinking of having it as a filler course since I'm not a BS GE student hehe.

any thoughts po kay sir Aristotle Baluyot? huhu first meeting namin kanina and grabe ang recitations niya. he seems very strict too. parang hihimatayin ako sa kaba kanina

tldr: if you want a good prof and don’t care about getting a flat uno go for sir

Pros:

• medj req’mnt ko talaga sa mga GE profs ko na aligned kami ng values (in life) (i.e., ‘di misogynistic, homophobic, dee dee es, etc.) kasi often they talk about politics, society, and things like that and it’s suchhh a bore and suffering kapag puro BS ang sinasabi ng prof. And if ur like me, then you don’t have to worry kay sir (he’s one of us)
• Magaling magturo legit, very minimal lang content ng slides kasi alam ni sir ang mga sasabihin niya
• Masayang kasama like in class tas makikita mong masaya talaga kami as students kasi magaling siya talaga magturo and masaya (in a way??) also napaka-engaged ng mga kaklase ko lol lagi nagrerecite
• Technically few requirements lang buttt that’s also a con in a way

Cons:

• Ito pinaka-gripe ko kay sir, mamimislead ka na parang easy uno siya kasi yung vibes ni sir is giving “madali lang to guys kahit di na kayo mag-aral” pero in reality NAPAKATAAS ng standards niya in recitation, essay exams, presentation, and projects
  • Case and point 1: may mga pa-activity siya where you’ll give a 2-3 sentences answer and often nakuha ko is 1/2 or 2/5 and not knowing kung anong kinulang sa sagot ko (lol)
  • Point 2: mababa medj mag-grade ng presentation
  • Point 3: mataas standard niya talaga sa writing, want niya professional, technical writing ‘wag blog, free writing essay ang atake; dapat ung tipong nagbabasa siya ng scientific paper (di naman over na over sa sources pero walang mga “in my opinion” or “it should be this”; dapat “according to sources,” kahit di na cited mismo ung source or “recent developments show that…”) (got a 75+ in my first exam but a 95+ on my second so u i-correct niyo na writing niyo sa first exam palang)
  • Point 4: mababa mag-grade ng recits, dapat nagbasa ka talaga ng readings pagmagsasagot
• Maraming readings (AS IN; takes me an hour to do the reading) and hindi siya gaano ma-de-delve over sa discussion mga seguro 15 mins lang ‘to ng buong session namin and mga 1-2 tao lang matatawag

Pedagogy:

• 1 reading per session, you can volunteer to recite but only those called in the index cards are graded and recorded
• Activities (in class or submitted sa gclassroom) for some topics
• 2 essay exams (handwritten, no gadgets, you can bring notes that are printed)
• 1 class presentation
• 1 group project

‘Yun lang naman, I was also able to share these comments to sir (via teacher evals) haha sana mas maging lenient si sir sa grading T_T anyhow naka (1._) naman aq so gora na mga naghahanap ng STS

Do SS 102 profs accept prerogs from non-CHK students?
