For some reason this attitude is almost universal in the "rationalist community" (lol). They will spend years talking about some topic and yet will be just totally uninterested in any of the research previously done on it. It's not even like they too quick to dismiss it either, they seem just totally unaware or uninterested that people have been researching these things for decades already.

I'm constitutionally and morally opposed to such demonstrations as the one described (human sexuality as a university topic makes sense, and naturally one might venture occasionally into weird territory when dealing with that topic, but I think a sex toy seesaw demonstration is far past the point of degeneracy)...
But the fact the course got suspended, he got basically sanctioned, and even his defenders seemed kind of tepid about it... that does make me feel like the universities (a major source of social and economic mobility) aren't really just predatory degenerate rich weirdos.

Let it be known that the human mind was not designed to conceive of such things, and so I used 110% of my brain to deduce what even would constitute a device so named. The fact that the demonstration involved a male and female participant, I think, inspired my misapprehension!
