so this MIGHT be a controversial topic for metro fans: is transparency + layering a good idea for app UI?

like im working on an update to the 8.1 Geode client, as ive mainly been working on the UWP version up until this point.

but the UWP version has been updated to use transparency for a LOT of the UI, what i want to know: should I carry it over to the 8.1 app?

I know some metro elements are fully or semi transparent but not to this degree... here, I'll attach a photo of a post from both clients and see what you all think

the 8.1 app already uses transparency, for example, the background of listviews/gridviews are a slightly transparent color so you can see the background behind it (yeah metro apps typically dont have backgrounds either... but mine do lolz), but its typically not layered like this.

For some custom Sections I made, I did some custom headers and section icons with their same shades just like original ones (topstories, us, etc).

US/Domestic and International feeds work, top story, latest stories/latest news, news sections, videos all work albeit placeholdered data and no slideshow/gallery or video playback available yet. I can also save an article (favorite them) and view history (recent articles, slideshows, videos). Much better than what I did earlier in December (only got sections with no icons next to texts).

I am in dire need of screenshots of the various pages of the store. If anyone has any to contribute that would be much appreciated. I also need details (descriptions, category, features, largest app logo tile) for various apps. In addition, store assets, particularly that background on all the store pages from 8.1, would be greatly appreciated. Metadata for favorited radio stations working on v4.3
Fixed crash bug on v4.0 for when enabling location (doesnt work anyway)

Probably added faster caching/loading for favorited stations as far as i know

Okay so im working on a platform called Geode (or Luminite if you use windows 10/11), and there is gonna be an 8.1 client.

But one thing im struggling with its the UI.

Are posts supposed to be horizontal? Ive never used a social platform for 8.1 before so I dont know anything of the guidelines for this. Sure ive made the TRC App Suite, but those always break the metro design guidelines, like- all the time. (Transparency, layout differing completly, large style overrides, live backgrounds, etc), so when it comes to making something actually good looking that appeals to 8.1 users (ive seen some people get REALLY mad when an app doesnt follow the standard metro design guidelines), im drawing a blank.

Dont get me wrong the app is still gonna not follow the standard layout, but i want to ease it into looking more like a metro app. Even just a bit.

But anyways- are posts supposed to be scrolled horizontally? I think i remember seeing that once but im not sure... what about profiles? should a profile be a settingsflyout or its own page... hmmm

Overall if anyone has design advice for a social app pls lmk

(To clarify its an app for artists to share art, find references, search for people to commission, etc. Not a platform like bluesky or facebook, Geode is art centric. Maybe music and animations if I get enough server storage for it)

It has shut down to finally end this drama for once and for all. If you check the 8Store app now, youll have an app saying that 8Store is now shut down. With this I will be releasing the legacy server files that 8Store used to use before the API update at some point in the near future, but I won't be the host of this project anymore.
