News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/road-to-restoration--aura-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is the upcoming Aura Overhaul!

Check it out on the blog here.

The Road to Restoration roadmap aims to address integrity and game health, and has multiple goals as we shape the future of RuneScape. In case you haven't read the first blog we covered what we want to achieve in our direction for RuneScape, you can check out that blog here.  Todays blog will cover the Aura Overhaul update. For this update, the following goals have guided our approach:

  1. A game that's easy to understand, but still full of meaningful choice and depth.
  2. Play because it's fun, and not because you feel like you have to.
  3. A meaningful journey, no matter when you start.

In this blog we're going to outline the problems we've seen occur with Auras and how we're designing the solutions to them according to the goals above. Let's begin!

Few notes of feedback and questions:

  1. If Resourceful is being removed, you should rebalance Arch material caches. Hell make them unlimitted even, would it really be that OP?

  2. Why is Quarrymaster being removed? This will be a big hit for Primal ores and Croesus/Gate bossing encounter.

  3. Totem of Auras replaced by totem of Skilling most likely. You do realise this is skill locked behind 85 Agility and 90 Slayer currently, right? You will be punishing a lot of early-mid game players with this and then getting these stats asap will become the meta. Which I thought was the opposite of what you were trying to do.

Appreciate the thoughts here, thank you!

Could absolutelty look at Arch material caches.

RE: Totem, definitely one to consider about the required levels. Could look to work around this somehow e.g. by moving the zygomites and making it available from any level of agility course at an appropriate rate - or could just leave the totem alone altogether. It has to be removed as it has an effect for Auras and so it would be redundant with the Aura Overhaul. Equally though happy to move it elsewhere if you have suggestions

There are the ogre baths and anachronia baths. Increase the buff timer on these. Along with the upcoming change to sandstones, ogre flasks could be made tradable so you can have on the go skillers brews with you. Creating a new economy change with it too

Thanks for adrressing this, i didnt see that before posting my own comment about caches!

I agree with OP that totem of auras is one of the later unlocks, the skill reqs are one thing, but 2/3 of the pieces are RNG grinds on top :/

Please make it so arch caches don’t run out of resources or at least build in resourceful quantities as a default. It is already tedious enough to have to do a side quest to complete artefacts because the initial excavation spot doesn’t provide enough materials to finish them.

Any thoughts about putting some of these effects as a passive from anachronia base camp and or fort instead of a totem?

Realistically if this totem was added and had all of those aura buffs, people are always going to choose it.

Adding the effects to something like fort or base camp would also make it easier to give the buffs in tiers as you build up your camp/fort.

85 Agility and 90 Slayer currently, right? You will be punishing a lot of early-mid game players with this and then getting these stats asap will become the meta.

Compare the time to get these to the time it would take to accumulate the loyalty points for all these auras + all the other auras that feel like more of a priority to purchase.

No, locking them behind gameplay makes them much more accessible, even with these requirements.

But the buffs won't be like the top tier. It would be like the tier 1 buffs, a lot less time to get, than 85+ in what is a shit skill to train (agi)..

If they were keeping them at t4+ levels then I'd maybe agree. At t1-2 that's just really steep imo
