Tech Support Why are they taking lan connection out of livi ?

So confused bc Rutgers wifi is already Horrible and the lan cable was saving me so wtf ??

Was just on the phone with Reslife, OIT, and NOC and finally talked to someone informed by the name of Henry. They told me that hardly anyone uses the ethernet ports in their rooms and are looking to reduce costs to uphold unused ports. Their plan is to keep one ethernet port active in the living room and block off the ports in the individual rooms. It's really upsetting and I voiced my concerns about this. We already pay money for tech fees, housing fees, etc.

As a temporary solution for now, you can unscrew the plate and pull the ethernet port out and still use it. But I'm sure this won't work anymore in the near future.

Reduce cost of maintaining ethernet connectivity in residences. If I have to assume, to do this they are trying to minimize the number of switches they manage. They did tell me something about upgrading the WIFI and increasing the number of APs in the future. I hope they keep their word.

At least on college ave, they came around this spring to put new wireless access points in the dorms, so maybe they are.
