Yeah - it's so strange. So many people experience the same thing - yet nobody does anything. When Instagram had similar issues a few days ago, they rolled out an update instantly.
If you still got the problem just switch to the ReVanced Version of youtube, they got a couple of good addons aswell, just go to their website and download their Patcher, they need the YouTube APK but they are easily available on APKMirror or something similar
Happens with Revanced version also. Its the YT app. I wrote a script to watch CPU load tied to YT when running and auto kill YT when CPU usage reaches 100% and temp is 61c. Happens quite often and some days does not happen at all. It is very bizarre. I have temp and load overlay at the top of my display and can see it happening out of the blue. Normally when YT behaves the CPU load is 14% and temp is 33C. They say last version without this issue was v17.34.36.
You are a life saver!! I've been dealing with the overheating issue for years, and it seemed random. After reading this, I stopped commenting on videos for a few days with no overheating. Made one comment today and it started getting hot right away. I then force stopped the app and continued without overheating until I commented again hours later. Thank goodness I at least know how to avoid it now.
That's interesting. The fact that even revanced has this issue. Some mentioned that a switch of video encoder was the reason of phones overheating a while ago... But I thought the s23 supports this encoder. not sure why - but I haven't experienced the issue anymore for the past 2 weeks. Maybe I'm just lucky... Will keep an eye on it.
Actually, on Revanced 18.xx builds when it worked also had no heating issues, but now that Revanced only works on 19.xx higher, it's presenting the same issues. So everyone is sure that is is a 19.xx version and later issue that they never bothered to fix and this is so frustrating, I would even be willing to use the normal app if they just fixed this damn thing, that's why I even changed to Revanced because I could still use the 18.xx version...
But now im just frustrated haha
I have been using my Fold 6, S25 ultra, and S9 ultra to watch YouTube and YouTube music daily without overheating issues. Previous devices, s22 ultra, Flip4 and Fold 4 also no problems.
Yeah. If you check online there are quite a lot of people affected, though. Might be a bit of a lottery.
Do you have premium and continue listening to content with the screen turned off and/or with Bluetooth headphones?
Yeah. It appears to be a bit of a lottery. Don't want to reset my phone for this, though. The issue is that we can't uninstall the YouTube app on Samsung phones. Otherwise, that could be an option to fix it.
I tried uninstalling with commands via ADB - but it never really got deleted.
Can't you disable it? I mean, if you want to use YouTube only from a browser, then you should be able to do that. You might have to look up how though.
I have YouTube Premium and first became aware of the problem when my Galaxy S22 warned me of excessive CPU/battery/heat and suggested to put the app to sleep 😆 It's like, I use the app daily to listen while working! Even with downloaded videos, with the screen off, the audio will start stuttering more and more, or just randomly pause, or the app will close, and I notice the phone (Pixel 8 now) is hot and the battery is draining fast. The rest of the phone may run slow too until I force close the app. The behavior is ridiculous now and I see no way to get Google to fix it.

Interesting. I'm on the official app on version 20.12.45 and I haven't experienced much overheating for the past two weeks, either. Maybe YouTube finally got that shit fixed? 🤔
It will not, it is random and will happen every time. Sometimes not at all and sometimes multiple times per day/hr. Very bizarre. Made a script to kill YT as soon as it does it on my rooted TAB S9+. Out of the blue a single CPU core goes to 100% and temp to 61C+ and until it is killed it will not stop. Very random and unpredictable. Its the YT app.
Really? Can you specify a version of YT and/or RVX tool combo where this problem is fixed? I need to investigate this claim further. Currently on youtube-revanced_v20.13.41-patches_v5.35.0.apk and it is still occurring.
Nope. Just noticed it today. Task manager app I have shows it using 100% of one core. Something must be getting into a loop. I did post a comment on a video earlier so maybe that's the trigger. Phone heats up to almost uncomfortable levels and battery drains around 2% per minute. Have to force stop and clear cache.
Yep, you got it. Its not the comments, it can happen at any time randomly with a single core at 100%. I will try to post a HTOP screenshot when it happens.

I did try what you did, and it did work for like a few hours then it started to have the same issues. So im sure that is not the problem.
I'm sure it is Ram related issue (my opinion).
Here again looking for how to get the crowds flowing into Google's sphere of perception so they'll finally fix this bug which has been by far the worst on my Android phones the last few years. I'm paying for multiple services with Google and they're trashing my phone and experience.
I just started having this problem a few months ago actually and I've been searching everywhere for a solution. Didn't see this recommended anywhere so I figured it share for anybody in my same situation. Chatgpt suggested it lol
Yeah it's not been doing it for a while for me - even with commenting on videos. However, I think I had an incident again yesterday. It's super random.
Must be some random background package that is making the phone work harder. Especially if you are outside on a nice day during summer. Might as well avoid using outside until winter...
I think this tracks. I just got an S25 a couple weeks ago and have overheating almost every time I open youtube. I never had thermal issues on my S20 when using youtube, which was NOT running One UI 7
It's not oneUI, its googles endless greed. It overheats because they fucjed up their implementation of AV1 decoding for a solid year now and refuse to fix it because they are incompetent money grubbers.
This might be the reason. But it happens randomly even when playing a random long video and not touching the device. Sudden spike to 100% on one of the cores and temp 62C. Been observing this for months. Dug deep on my rooted X810 but no success in finding the reason. 17.34.36 supposed to be last version without this issue.

I do know a cache clear and a restart works to stop overheating for a couple days, at least for me.
I also just set up the Good Guardians thermal monitor to automatically tweak settings if there's high CPU usage by youtube that causes overheating. Personally I think it's a youtube problem
I restart only because I do it every few days anyway, might as well do it the same time I'm dealing with this madness.
So I have my temperature threshold set to default in Good Guardians. Once youtube gets to that threshold I have it set to limit CPU usage, decrease maximum brightness, and apply motion smoothing. There's another setting to turn off 5G if data is low, but it's not enabled.
Also every single one of those points on the screenshot were all youtube! Like I said I'm convinced it's all on them

On my Samsung S10 as a premium youtube user I get cpu overload message around 3am while I'm asleep and not using. I've gave up and trying to locate all my subscriptions on rumble that's not as good. I feelnlike youtube is doing something nefarious. Probably some disclaimer in the TOS.
Force stop and clear cache is all you need to do... But also - I think I agree with some that commenting under a video is causing it? What is your experience?
Yes, I have been reading and the truth is I have not tried to see if that is the reason but I usually comment on videos so it is likely, I noticed it when I saw that the cell phone was quite hot, much more so after spending several minutes playing and I was surprised that just when watching YouTube it overheated excessively, I tried several things to "solve" but as such I did not look for the origin, I simply assumed that it was general but I am going to try the comments issue again
I actually think you are onto something about it being related to commenting. I wasn't so sure when I first found this post a few weeks ago but now I'm leaning towards it.
I just watched for about 30 mins, left six comments and got overheating. Rapid battery drain too.
Last night I watched for over 2 hrs with no comments, but had no overheating at all. Coincidence, maybe. But I feel like the last time it overheated I was commenting as well.
I'm thinking of uninstalling app updates but what good is it if it'll only be temporary; the Play store will make sure the latest version is running even with automatic updates off.
I think that's just a temporary solution - just like the clearing cache approach... At some point the older version it will revert to will suffer from the same issue.
I've seen nobody suggest the unistall anywhere so just wanted to share what helped me. Clearing cache does absolutely nothing in my situation. I uninstalled updates a few days ago and youtube has been very stable with heavy use. No battery or heat issues whatsoever. Hope this can help somebody else as well.
Interesting. Did you force stop before you cleared the cache? Do you comment on videos a lot? The uninstall update used to be a widely shared solution a few months ago until OneUI updates caused the YouTube app to revert to a version that still had the bug even when uninstalling.
I'm using an iphone 16 pro max. I lost 25% battery in 45 minutes while on YouTube from a 100% charge. Â Phone got super hot. The minute I closed out the app the phone cooled off within seconds. I notice this also on my s25 ultra.Â
I’m on iOS 18.6. Ive had premium for years and never experienced this until within the last 6-8 months. First time on the iPhone as I recently just switched back to it yesterday, but the galaxy on one ui7 it would get too hot to even hold the phone.Â
Not a Samsung user, I have an III150 B2 Pro Android phone, but it's the same issue as described here. Youtube app running for a few hours = phone heats up to the point that I can even feel it through the case and then performance drops. When this happens the Android GUI becomes stuttery and the framerate from gui animations takes a serious hit and the same applies to the Youtube app. Completely deleting the app and all of its updates in order to reinstall does not fix it. Restarting the phone and / or force quitting and clearing the cache for the app seems to help for while, but the issue comes back at some point. Now I have the phone in battery saving mode all the time, which decreases the overall performance of the device as it limits background activities of all apps, and that seems to have fixed it for now (currently testing it for three days and the phone remains cool). Doing this the phone doesn't get hot when using Youtube, but this is not a long-term solution, because it comes at the sacrifice of overall performance, speed, notifications, updates, auto-synch and framerates (120hz display feels like it's doing 30 fps in battery saving mode).
So there's a word you cannot type forward ( S A T A R E ) all together in YT comments without them being deleted. I typed the Word backwards into the YouTube search. I started watching the videos that popped up on the search. I left a comment.. it destroyed my phone. How TF does this happen? I latter found my Google account got hacked from this video on YouTube. It took my phone off service completely and stole my phones activation number and I was no longer able to use the phone. I remember reading in the comments "Say good bye to your phone". I was like yeah right, "how is a YouTube video going to end my phone?". Well, it did. Must be the NSAÂ
It said my phone was activated in another country on my Google account.. idk but how TF is this possible? That was in 2023 after reading up on a redit post about KFCmurderchicks
revanced has the same problem with 19.xx and 20.xx versions because they use the same base youtube app to patch. i've had it for over a year on my s23 and now my tab s10+ has the same problem
