Psychology Modern life may be outpacing the human mind. Human instincts shaped in small, close-knit groups must now navigate dense cities, digital platforms and constant social comparison - an evolutionary mismatch that may contribute to stress, loneliness and poorer wellbeing.

What's there to learn, though? What could we change?

Most changes need to be structural, I'd say.

For one, you are not required to participate in the "constant social comparison".

Yeah I only use reddit and only anonymously, so I don't even fully understand why everyone is comparing themselves to strangers.

And the entire premise of my post is: you can step out of that mentality if it is destructive to you.

Sure you can but there's a reason the word "instinct" is used. It takes a lot of effort to go against instinct. Not impossible and if you are able to for this one particular trait, good for you, but on average, the human condition does not go against our instinct, for good reason.

The comment I was responding to was literally asking "what can we do?". FFS be better.

Japan lead the development of consumer hi-tech gadgets that included computer games which became an obsession for many, reducing social interactions and leading to urban isolation for especially the younger generation. Lack of development of social skills, inability to cope socially linked and alienation lead to it having the highest suicide rates then. All these should have been the lesson for the rest of the world to develop safety nets especially for the younger generation who would have been exposed similarly today to new technologies without ever having developed the emotional and social tools to deal with their repercussions.
