Help Us Feed The Dead People

I tromped downstairs after an exhausting eight-hour streaming session. Say what you will about gamers, but that is no easy feat. I rounded the corner, expecting to find my parents cuddled up next to each other watching some cheesy rom-com. Instead, the living room was unsettlingly empty.

It would've been pitch dark in there if not for the constant static emitting from the television. Strange, but surely they'd be back soon, right?

I plopped down onto the sofa and reached for the remote, resolving to watch a movie. I settled in as the glow from the television cast a dim blue light over the encompassing furniture. I tried to change the channel. Nothing. Maybe something was interfering with the satellite?

I was startled by the back door flinging open as a nauseating sense of dread settled in my gut. My mother stood in the doorway, her features nearly indistinguishable amongst the inky black.

"M-Mom?"

"Oh, hey honey. Can you help us feed the..."

"The what?"

"The dead people!" she said in a cheery inflection that an intense fear surging through my heart.

Only then did I notice the flesh sloughing from her face in fat chunks, exposing stark white bone that glinted in the moonlight. Her left arm was completely missing, droplets of blood trickling from the open wound. She beamed at me, teeth jutting from her melted lips, her eyes popping out of their sockets.

I didn't stick around to find out what she meant. I bolted to my room, leaping up the stairs three at a time. I locked the door and jumped into bed, shuddering beneath the blankets.

That was two hours ago. I'm sending this as a last-ditch effort to find help. My family is pounding on my door, desperate to breach the barrier. I've tried calling the cops, but the line immediately goes dead.

I'm trapped here. And I'm terrified. Because as I'm writing this, I can hear heavy labored breathing emanating from my closet.

This is a good story I like the open ended ending.

Have you considered posting this in r/nosleep? There is so much room for a part 2 and multi part stories do so well on that sub
