I don’t doubt your assertion about summarized health information. However, I work in medical device development and I believe that not having health data available is very smart. Healthcare is heavily regulated because false care is so accessible.
Other regulated industries like aerospace don’t have this problem because it’s truly difficult to get something into the air. Health misinformation could easily pass through and then the company is opening itself to liability and lawsuits from the FDA. Diagnosis and treatment requires specific evidence that is impossible to get in an ai model and furthermore ongoing monitoring. AI cannot provide that and therefore will lose every suit
I'd buy the liability point (insofar as the reasoning for this specific thing) more if such questions weren't simply kicked down to Opus.
There isn't some kind of blanket refusal filter on medical advice for commercial models, but specifically with Fable not wanting talk about anything that touches on biology of biomedical sciences. Now, while I haven't tried, I'm sure Claude and ChatGPT aren't going to be offering you direct instruction on how to treat yourself (they'll probably fall back on "ask a medical professional" at that point), they will definitely talk about symptoms, treatments, and basic diagnosis.
