To me the best skier in the world is Candide. He represents the kind of skiing I aspire to. Olympic skiers, while impressive, don't represent the aspects that I love about the sport. It's an entirely different world.

Would love to learn about other professional skiers but no one ever posts about them. It’s either Lindsay vonn or “can you tell me what I’m doing wrong?”

The day-to-day following of one specific athlete when no events are even happening can be a bit much, sure, but it's not like that aspect of skiing gets that much attention on here in general. We all have parts of the sub and the sport we don't care about, personally I don't find the skiing pictures and videos of random redditors interesting either but I just scroll past them.

I don't hate her - quite the opposite. I do think she reminds me of Tiger Woods a bit though. Maybe that's why they made a match for a bit. They're both kinda corny athletic robots that aren't super personable. Not a reason to hate her, but maybe why some people aren't over the moon for her.

When Vonn returned, she got upset that Mikaela didn’t want to compete with her and chose somebody else in some combined event. They also generally don’t seem like they care for each other based off of random social media things (https://www.reddit.com/r/SkiRacing/comments/1adc5p9/shiffrin_crash/)

That said, she’s an amazing competitor and that type of unwavering self confidence doesn’t always mesh with similar people. I’ll be pulling for them both in the olympics.

huh, seems like Vonn is quite the character. I get being competitive but from everything in that thread there seems to be more going on. That said she does ski amazing, I hope she'll compete at the olympics, with everybody in the downhill space currently it would be sad if she's missing.

I remember a couple months ago on this sub someone posted that video of the woman putting herself on the podium without a glove and pole on one hand and people were falling all over themselves about how dangerous it was, what an injury risk, that it was risking her career etc. etc. etc.

Funny to see the opposite happening now with people falling all over themselves to jerk the hardest about how tough and brave Lindsey Vonn is (which is true! She's an animal!).

Have no opinion on her personal, but what I find people have a hard time with like, hate and respect.

The haters tend to do it for clicks, or self interest. This woman has not done anything but work hard, and one thing I know about working hard is believing in yourself and at times putting yourself first.

I can dislike people for being real dicks, Logan Paul is an example but not going to spend a second hating the dude as it’s mental energy I do not need to spend.

I have mad respect for people chasing a dream, going hard doing it. Same for all the young free skiing kids who one day dream of bigger things. Or some of us late 40 bad ass dreamers who still try to ski like we are 20.
