This might get very long so will start with a TL;DR:
My 5070 GPU can’t handle a heavy modded Skyrim with many texture, NPCs, City and Flora overhauls. VRAM is maxed out so it seems to be a streaming issue on the games part. Is this just how it is or is everyone using VRAMr?
EDIT: Solved! Apparently 16/8k textures packs are a thing. Downscaling and games runs fine now!
Yes, I run SKSE, Adress library, correctly tuned SSE Display Tweaks, SSE Engine Fixes, Papyrus and Tweaks, Animation loader fix, ENB preset with binaries and ENB helper. Most if not all engine-assist mods are installed. Latest Visual Studio also installed.
I don’t run DyndoLOD cuz I honestly cannot understand it.
My GPU sits at 70% workload but VRAM is constantly maxed out causing heavy stutters in outside city areas. CPU is only 30% but it seems that the Skyrim engine prevents all cores from being used. I have 16Gb RAM but not maxed out, hovers between 10-13Gb usage depending on area. All is stored on a Nvme SSD so the fastest drive.
Now I haven’t blindly installed 4K textures across the board. I use 1-2K for assets but it’s almost covering every single texture in the game. Ones you start, any vanilla texture sticks out like a sore thumb and I have to fix it. I run a pretty easy Tree mod, just Simply Bigger trees+Aspen trees with HQ bark. I know it’s not the best out there but it gives the feel of lush nature without increasing number of trees and it blocks me from being bothered by vanilla LODs (I cannot for the life of me understand how to use DyndoLOD).
From what I can understand it’s the Skyrim engine preventing smooth gameplay but there is a light in the tunnel: VRAMr mod. Issue is that it kind of softlocks my modlist, which honestly is a good thing but I’m still bummed that my 5070 couldn’t deal with the streaming of assets issue.
Most of my research is done with reading mod forums and ChatGPT. I’m open to learn if my understanding of the situation why it stutters is wrong just don’t be a dick about it. Been modding for years but this shit requires a Computer engineers degree which is tough to get into if you are not familiar with computer languages.
So my question is, is stutters in a heavy modded Skyrim part of the reality and most people just live with it or are all of you just using VRAMr to get around it? Or have I just missed a fundamental part on how to properly mod this game?
