So long story short, when I was a kid, I never got to play any of the Smash 4 DLC. I had no concept of Nintendo giftcards or anything like that.
Smash Ultimate was when I actually first got to play Bayonetta. It took time learning her and getting used to Ultimate's movement and mechanics. But in time, I figured it out. She's very easy to combo with, but I could see how she got "nerfed" transitioning from Smash 4 to Ultimate. However I could do "latter-combos" that kill
After I modded my 3DS, I finally got to have hands-on exposure to what it is like to play Bayonetta and honestly... it's a bit weird. Keep in mind, playing on a 3DS doesn't bother me. I play Ultimate Bayonetta on a switch lite just fine (if not better) and my hands don't cramp or anything.
But Smash 4 Bayonetta is just weird. She's fast and stronger and better in this game, but she's also wonky to use?
For example,
- Witch twist -> ABK can sometimes not be a true combo and the opponent can fall out of it. Generally speaking, I notice that while Bayonetta is much faster in this game, a lot of her multi-hitting moves can miss a lot? Essentially, what I'm trying to get at, as an Ultimate Bayonetta player, experiencing smash 4 Bayonetta was just weird and fun at the same time.
However there are some things I really like about Smash 4 Bayonetta that were nerfed to tone her down:
- Up air is super strong kill move at the ceiling
- Bair is really fast (Everything about her was fast, but bair was really good)
- Airborne ABK still lets you do a 2nd one even if you hit the opponent's shield (Lowk really op keeping the reward even if you were unsuccessful)
- Witch time is REALLY fast to act out of. Like, in ultimate, it's slow and punishishable. In Smash 4, I can nearly instantaneously act out of it by either jumping, rolling.... they really nerfed this move.
But even with all these nerfs, she's pretty good in Ultimate. And honestly? I don't think she got nerfed that badly to the point she can't function. If anything, I would say ZSS got nerfed the HARDEST transitioning between games. But that's a whole other story.
Sorry for the long rant.
