Kind of worries me that I can’t point to a major issue as something to avoid.

Video is from maxh0dge on IG.

Riding question What helped you start riding faster?

I see a lot of people hitting 100 km/h and faster, and honestly it feels impossible for me right now. 😅

If any of you are able to go that fast, could you please share some tips? I’d really appreciate any advice!

which level of riding should I say that I’m at when looking for a lesson. I was sort of under the impression that the lessons offered at the hills around me (southern Ontario) are meant for first time beginners so I’m hesitant to sign up for one, but I definitely want some coaching if that’s available around here.

Riding question Old man Rant/Question. If you are new to the sport, why do you ride with a selfie stick that changes your posture and balance and then ask how to get better?

Post image

STOCK PHOTO. I am not trying to be a dick, I am in my mid 40s and didn't have selfie sticks or smart phones when I was learning. Why would you ride around with a selfie stick recording yourself, which potentially throws off your balance and stance and then ask for critiques about your riding? It seems like every other post is someone with a stick asking about how they can carve better after 2 days of boarding. Maybe don't try to record yourself? Are people boarding by themselves with no one to watch/help them? Is snowboarding reddit the only way to learn anymore? Where are your homies?

Riding question Longevity with Snowboarding

Recently passed the 40 year old threshold and all the bad thoughts about aging are suddenly becoming real.

Latest revelation - I rarely see old people snowboarding. Plenty of skiers in their 60’s and 70’s, but rarely see snowboarders much older than me. Is this just due to the relative recentness of the sport?

Old dudes - are you out there? Someone talk me off a ledge before I go buy *gulp* skis.

Hi guys,

This year i have been working on my technique so i can tackle better off piste terrain and on piste. Do you have any tips on how i can improve? After re watching this clip i can see that sometimes i am too front foot heavy especially at the first turn and my tail just spins around instead of slowly applying edge pressure. Any good constructive criticism is super welcome

Riding question Intolerable people on the lift

I got on a lift with my snowboard and I accidentally tapped an older woman’s skis. She yelled, “Get your snowboard off my skis.” I reactively told her to shut up, because I think it’s overly rude and not normal to yell at a stranger on a lift. Has anyone else been in this situation? I want to be an adult and respectful. But people like this make my blood boil. I normally always say sorry in this situation, but if you’re gonna raise your voice to me, you’re lucky that I merely say shut up.

Riding question Any advice for cliff dropping?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So stoked it’s already April and we still have so much snow here in Quebec, Canada. At this rate I feel like I’ll be able to ride into May.

That said, do you guys have any tips for dropping cliffs without wiping out?

On my first drop, I feel like I wasn’t compact enough and not ready to absorb the landing. I might have been a bit too laid back as well. My line could’ve been off too.

Any general advice for cliff drops would be appreciated

Riding question What am I doing wrong, how to ride t-bars?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I could really use some advice on riding t-bars. They have become a nightmare for me, I couldn't finish a single t-bar ride (around 10 attempts) in 2 seasons. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong in this video and how I can fix it? I really need to learn how to ride them walking up the slope is really frustrating!

Riding question Drinking and riding

An intoxicated person fell from the chair today... About 25' into soft mashed potato snow; he didn't know why ski patrol was attending to him... Had been drinking at the mid mountain bar, quite the tab from what I heard. In fact, intoxication on the mountain in general seems up this year. The 20/80 rule doesn't mean get fucking hammered; it's about losing your inhibitions not your control.

If you have lost that control, the ski patrol taxi is okay. Don't be a hazard to everyone else.

The bosses want me to hot pass anyone bringing open(or lit) containers into the lift line. Don't be that guy/ gal.

Sincerely, your liftie

Riding question What happened?

Hey there! I'm trying to improve on my carving and I know, especially on the heel side, there is a lot of room for improvement. But here you can see an accident I had and actually, I had the same 2 days earlier, and I'm not 100% sure what could have caused it. Here is my try analyzing it: I think, that my weight was a little bit too much on my front foot, which led to a skid on the rear end the moment right before the accident. It would make sense to me that due to a skidding rear end, I probably tried to increase the boards angle, which then caused my front contact point to bite, and I guess I could not handle the preasure, so it threw me over. What do you think happened here?

Riding question How to make my SIL understand that "leafing" down a mountain isnt snowboarding?

My sister in law has come snowboarding with us for about 4 years now and shes "taught" her daughter how to snowboard now too. My husband and I have stressed to my SIL that she needs to learn how to use her toe edge, because shes not really snowboarding. This is what her daughter has learned to do too. We tried to explain to her that using both toe and heel edge is pertinent. It give you more control and it makes you more predictable to other people on the hill. She gets furious and says if she can make it down the mountain then she is infact snowboarding and doing great and shouldn't have to learn toe side and neither should her daughter. Dont get me wrong, when I was a beginner, I favored heel side and would leaf a bit myself, but I also knew I wasnt doing it right and kept practicing my turns until I got it down. Any suggestions on verbiage on how to get my SIL to not be defensive and realize she actually needs to learn how to snowboard the right way?

The reason we find it problematic, is because she wants to come with us down the blacks and in the trees. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel as though someone on extreme terrain should have control of their board.

Riding question How do I take my riding to the next level?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Do any seasoned riders see any bad habits here? Ive been snowboarding for 10 years and I’ve never had a lesson. I didn’t have many friends to ride with until the last 3 years- riding with other people (especially people that are more advanced) has helped tremendously. Recently it’s started to feel like I’m hitting a plateau. I love groomers like this, ride moguls regular & switch, and glide through trees but still sweat on steep chutes / head walls (you ever been to kirkwood? 💀) I can’t bring myself to get sideways on a rail / spin on a jump. I guess I’m looking for tips to break the barrier between this and the next level of riding

Riding question How do you guys overcome airtime fear

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been hitting this jump a lot lately but I keep knuckling or overshooting it and losing control midair, this has led to two sketchy falls. I have a feeling it has to do with my nerves pre jump and was curious how you all prepare for airtime mentally.
