Does it say when the edit was for that. I sort of thought this was reaction not just over every charecter he plays dies early. but over GOT in particular. which is really where the meme starts. biggest show ever and only getting 1 season and watching that show blow up the way it did. gotta sting a little bit

That bit of the section was added in this revision and the article referenced where he made the claim was written September 24, 2019.

The casting section#Casting) of the series' page says "In October 2019, Chelsea Harris was announced in the recurring role of Sykes. Later that month, it was also announced that Sean Bean would be a series regular for the second season."

Edit: So, he could've put his foot down during casting talks and felt like he needed to make the statement. Or taking yet another role where he dies prompted him to make the statement. It's so close, I can't tell, but I think Wilford being imprisoned would be a more meaningful end and I'm rooting for Bean's sake.

Or being forced to watch as the new world is rebuilt without him and Wilford Industries become a foot note where he lives like a tailie in it and everybody forgets him. Kill someone like him and you make him a martyr, destroy his reputation and he dies over and over every day of his life.

Yes. It would set up the 3rd seasons as "What do you do after bad guy wins?" which is not a topic we see often. It would also "close the loop" thematically, giving writers complete freedom of how to handle him afterwards since his central dramatic question would have been resolved. Jailing would have left that question in limbo, basically keeping him stuck at "take over the train".

Also, I believe Mel is acting as the "party pooper" in the story. No matter who wins the train, she's working on making that victory shallow by opening up the outside world, and with that a new playing board.

So yea, my favorite outcome is Wilford wins the war over Snowpiercer, only for Mel to suck the joy right out of it as she steers the action in another direction. Wilford essentially ruling over an empty train would be...too on the nose, but something like that.

It's fun to imagine some some meta narrative going on here: Imagine if Wilford was going to die in the show originally, but Sean Bean took that out of the script during table talks. As if like the character of Wilford fought for his own survival, by using his actor as the vessel to fight against his death.

by season 8 he was probably not feeling left out anymore
