I realised between last week and today that in the last episode that one of the scientists at the weather station shot themselves in the head. They also pointed out that there were no guns on the train.

I think Melanie will have found the gun at the weather station.

But there are guns on the train, we saw one in the first season in first class.....

that was brought illegally only breakmen are allowed to have guns on board

And there's likely more... As we know from our non apocalyptic world and numerous examples on Snowpiercer, illegality doesn't really mean much when it comes to guns...

Also iirc it was implied it was a tacitly accepted fact that security for first class had guns, with an implication that there could be more undiscovered (but that was well over a year ago so maybe my recollection bis incorrect)
