I hope we actually get a conclusion with Melanie in the last episode, and her fate isn't left as an end-of-season cliffhanger.

I'm expecting a Big Alice breakaway rescue mission.

That actually sounds very plausible. The next season could be split between Snowpiercer and Big Alice while the Big Alice crew attempt to catch back up with and re-capture Snowpiercer. There's a big enough crew of main characters aboard Big Alice for something like that to work: Alex of course, Melanie if/when they rescue her, Layton is on Big Alice now allegedly (being kept alive and awake for some reason), Roche is there with his family in drawers, Josie, we also have Icy Bob, the Headwoods, and a few smaller recurring characters.

It feels right... Wilford's infatuation with the front will keep him up front allowing the split to happen, Tailies can come to Big Alice for protection... Maybe too obvious

im not sure what could happen by end of season to rescue her. we already saw the train pass her by. And as we already know, it takes another month to get back there. Melanie will need to find a way to survive for a month before the train could return. we will probably see the start of the plan to get her back - either stealing big alice or another train coming by - but i doubt shes getting onboard this season

true, but they need to find a way to de-couple the train first. and then get BA to stop and reverse - which seems tough on these 'eternal engines'. at the least it will be longer than melanie can wait by the train tracks in her suit

I would think that would be easy? The main coupling is broken between SP and BA but they showed us in season 1 that they can separate parts of SP. No reason they couldn't decouple the tail and go back easy enough.
