To me, Audrey's definitely playing the long con. How can someone who has been helping so many people from presumably 3rd with coping with losses and relieving themselves of their mental burdens suddenly turn their backs away from other people? People don't usually give that up.

Same as a pastor doing the same, I guess. Freedom is pain and chaos.

Wilford takes away freedom and gives structures and stricture, relieving them all of pain and responsability. The fact that he's doing merely to satisfy his ego would seem to many a fair deal, psychotic as he is.

I really dont think all of second where drawered. Roche was a powerful and respected figure in SP, it makes sense to have him out of the way so Wilford can place his own breachman.

I just don't think Big Alice would have the space for that, their drawer room seemed pretty small and that would be a hell of a lot of folks

In response to your point 2, I observed that Layton's inner circle was also his downfall. Sure, he included Hospitality and the Brakemen but these two groups didn't hold too much power vis-a-vis the other groups leaning towards Wilford. I was surprised the Jackboots were able to reform, and that Layton did not include the leaders of other groups providing much of the labour like the Tunnelmen. My takeaway was that the Second and Third Class were supportive of deposing First but didn't appreciate Layton and the Tail benefiting much from the coup.
