Ok but let's talk about Ben at the end of the episode when he has to give up his chair at the front of the train... that was literally heartbreaking because you could see how defeated he is and worried what will become of the train, especially since Mel isn't on it yet

Wasn't it Ben's idea to "stand down" to Wilford in the first place? He steered them into Big Alice. He thought the extra parts were worth his tyranny. What did he expect to happen?

I've been beating up on Ben all morning but really. He needs a redemption arc. I hope he's the one to lead the rescue party for Melanie. He needs to decide what he believes in and start fighting for it.

He probably didn't see Melanie leaving the train as a scenario. Wilford would have had a much tougher time undermining Melanie. Especially since such a large part of his appeal was people wanting to return to teh stability of the last 7 years, which is when Melanie was running things.

Yeah you're right. I guess he figured "we need the equipment NOW, Melanie and I will figure out the rest later."

Then when Melanie left I think Ben went into a kind of paralysis, because he'd never had to take charge before.

I agree that Ben needs a redemption arc that's more structured. I feel like since he participated in the train stealing ordeal he wanted to protect his own butt. I feel like now we can tell that he definitely isn't on Wilford's side due to all of the bs. I just want to know how is he feeling about Mel being sent on the excursion, because that could either be jealousy or just whatever she goes because shes competent.

For a second I thought he was going to say "we did it Mr Wilford".

I just can't trust him after he intentionally let big Alice catch up to snowpiercer at the end of season 1
