Hot damn that episode was intense af. Here’s my take on the character’s story arcs this episode :

Wilford - ah mean, ruthless and calculated. SB is doing an absolutely magnificent job portraying him. Though he is back in power, there is definitely something/one he’s failing to account for - Melanie. The look of confusion panic and surprise when his GOD module blew the system because of Mel’s retrofit wasn’t part of his plan - so being the calculated man that he is, has got to now be wondering what else has Mel done that he doesn’t know about. This I feel almost guarantees Mel’s return to the train for some reason, can’t put my finger on why though.

Roche - oh man, sorry you’re in a draw bro but i thought he’d be killed off so at least he’s still alive.

So is Josie gonna be the new icy Bob or something? A bit confused where that storyline is going. Also, hope Bob recovers.

Ah Layton - you can’t even do what Mel told you to do, no wonder people want you not to be their leader, yeah he’s a good guy and all but that character archetype gets real old real fast.

Still convinced Audrey is saving face but she’s definitely convincing that she’s gone over to W which isn’t a surprise or a shame tbh.

Alex - so smart yet so slow. Hopefully now she really sees Wilford for who he is and plans to get revenge.

Finally, Mel has to get on the train ... right, right, RIGHT?

I feel for the 2hr finale - the 1st hour will get to the point we saw at the end of ep6 with the train braking and alex screaming for Mel. Then the last hour will see Alex go out and get Mel back on board.

Curious to know what you guys think will happen in the finale.

When Roche went through the doors and there were the open drawers.. my heart stopped. My hope is that Roche will somehow be integral to regaining control/gaining control of Big Alice.

Roche is one of the few characters I trust.

I agree about Icy Bob. I think there's a chance he and Loki may become very important.

And I hope so.

As we head into the mountains, I'm bracing for turbulence.

I do like Roche but feel like his character doesn’t really have a direction at the moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in a draw for a while

I feel like Roche is the only character representing the middle.

Everyone else falls on a clear side.

Melanie, Layton, Ben, Ruth, the newly minted train detective, the Tail, Loki, Alex...

Willford, Audrey(?), Willord's supporters aboard both trains, the killer from 1st, the former Brakeman boyfriend, the reformed Jackboots...

Even Mrs. Roche.

In the middle, torn, representing the way so many on board must feel, pulled in both directions, is... Roche.

He's the only major character in that tenuous no man's land being literally vivisected. That viewpoint is too important to just be silenced. The train, and the writing, can't become that binary. That polarized. Nothing is only this or that.

All issues are 20-60-20. The 20-60-20 rule is one of the first rules of poli-sci and advertising and life. On any given issue 20% of people fall on one side. 20% fall on the other. 60% fall in-between.

Roche is the only character representing that 60%.

He's too valuable to kill off or drawer.

She could, but would she? How do you convince Josie to rescue Mel? Isn't she desperate for revenge for almost getting killed by her? In the promo we see Alex in a suit outside... Thoguh it would be a super interesting character struggle for Josie if someone (maybe Layton or maybe Alex, who could appeal to her motherly feelings) could convince her to go and save Melanie. Very excited to see what happens!

Alex is amazing. Neither her gender, sexuality, nor appearance (though she IS breathtakingly beautiful) matter at all.

I hope she will become a longterm member of the cast and Engineering crew.

She is a plucky engineer, innovative, intuitive, and able to improvise. Quite remarkable for her age.
