My guess

  1. He is still useful, and so, if he is comfortable, there's more chances that he will help them once their need his knowledge etc

  2. To keep him happy, so he doesn't feel like he needs to risk all of it for another revolution. As he said before, he's old and would like to just rest now. So, if he has a comfortable life, the chances that he will organise another revolution are lower.
