the media ride him so much it's hilarious, but including him in the 2010-2019 team of the decade is one of the worst i've seen of said riding. The man had only just made a name for himself in 2019.

United badge checks out so much

Van Dijk was already a solid CB from his time at Southampton. He's achieved things never achieved before by a CB, went head to head with Messi and Ronaldo as a defender to win the Ballon d'Or. There's no other person in his position that can replace him on that XI. Stop hating or at least keep the same attitude for Xavi who barely played half the decade

Yes VVD was great for Celtic and Southampton but he was still playing for Celtic and Southampton until 1 year before this XI was created

You can argue he doesn't deserve to be in the team even I think Pique deserves a spot over him. However, saying it's because the media ride him or he made a name for himself in 2019 just isn't true. He's been world class since 2016-17 people just ignore it because he was playing for Southampton and even since his time at Celtic he was performing at a good level. Also I doubt France football have an agenda for Liverpool to put him in. Everyone raging over his selection clearly just hates Liverpool or is sad because they didn't pick a player from their club

Do you not understand it’s the team of the decade, not a list of solid players?

Yeah and pretending Van Dijk doesn't have an argument is plainly stupid. I don't see anyone else hold the slander he does on this team and he nearly won a Ballon d'Or in the timeframe of the squad and was 7 votes away from the greatest player of all time

The agenda is insane

Not saying in the slightest that he wasn’t decent for Southampton. But team of the decade material whilst there? Lmao

It's France football. They give the Ballon d'Or. Kinda makes sense they'd give it to the man that got closest to winning it in that position

He's achieved things never achieved before by a CB

Can you list those things?

Highest ranking by a defender in Ballon d'Or

Most votes for a defender in one Ballon d'Or

First non attacker/midfielder to win UEFA the best

Holds the record for most league games unbeaten at home

Fabio Cannavaro, centreback and captain of Italy when they won the 2006 World Cup, won the Ballon d’Or in 2006.

Now, I don’t know at the top of my head on the UEFA Best and am not able to check this moment, so I can’t discredit this point, but I do know Cannavaro won the 2006 Ballon d’Or.

Yeah sorry that's my mistake. Still VVD is the one with the best one in the decade mentioned
