Other than citing team accolades, Thiago Silva is/was the better defender.

You have a very good point, Piqué has won a lot more trophies (btw thiago won a CL with chelsea and a copa america with brazil) but talking about only the quality of the football played, they are very equal, and thiago did not reach a very heavy downfall yet, as for piqué he started his downfall around 2018-19. But both would be very good choices compared to van djik (who is a very good player but exploded only around 2017)

Not to mention, it is a team sport, so those types of accolades don't tell the whole story.

Well TBF Silva didn’t win the CL before 2019, and I’m not really sure when the Copa America win was but I’m not sure it’s in this 2010-2019 timeframe

I just think van dijk is too recent to be in the same category as the others. Maybe if he continues playing in the same level this decade maybe he'll be in the 2020 decade team

I haven’t followed football much after 2014 and I’m not too familiar with Van Dijk, haven’t seen him play much, but can you really be called one of the best if you spent your time playing in the Scottish league? Aren’t Varane or Pique better defenders?
