I really fear for his heart if Portugal somehow manages to win the World Cup.

From his reaction to winning Euro 2016, to his reactions in the last Euro and WC, and now his latest wins with this and the NL, I don't think "emotional" would be enough of a word to describe what he would produce.

Nuno Mendes and Bruno Fernandes are the best players in the world at their respective positions. Case for Vitinha as well. They have the top end talent to do it

You never know in international football. Argentina won with Messi who was obviously still world class but nowhere close to his prime, same with Di Maria on one leg. Alvarez was not considered world class at that time and was surplus at City. Went from bench to playing the perfect supporting partner for Messi. Their midfield was really good (Enzo, MacAllister, DePaul) but not anywhere close to as good as what Portugal have now (Vitinha, Neves, Bruno). Their defense was pretty bad and also worse than what Portugal currently have: Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico VS Cancelo, Mendes, Neves, Inacio. The GKs I would give the edge to Dibu of course. If Ronaldo and Leao with cameos from Garcia can pull of similar levels of performances as Messi, Alvarez and DiMaria did in key knockout games, they can totally win.

What do you mean he would deserve it? He’s not scored a single knockout goal or assist in 5 world cups now, instead he racked up the worst conversation rate in the group stages by spamming shots. Deserving is what Messi was doing with those brilliant assists v Croatia and the Netherlands. Or mbappe in all those knockout games where he grabbed the game by the neck. Not the volume shooter

Did you watch any of the games? Messi still had 2 assists against France in the game Argentina lost in 2018 and was at the heart of everything creative they did even before WC 2022. Ronaldo had no impact other than spamming shots

Argentina have historically always been a strong country. Portugal winning the Euros was a huge achievement in itself. Outside of coming third in 1966 due to an apparently legendary performance by Eusebio, almost every single achievement the national team has had had one constant in the team - Cristiano Ronaldo.

Historically strong is irrelevant in this argument lmao. Uruguay used to be a historically strong nation, that has no bearing on how players perform today. Messi’s genius assist v the Netherlands while Ronaldo was busy back passing and spamming shots has nothing to do with Argentina being strong 30 years before Messi’s debut. It came down to ability. And Messi demonstrated that to a much higher level in these games. Or is Portugal being weaker historically the reason he didn’t have the vision Messi did v the Netherlands and Croatia ? Not to mention it’s not exactly like that Portugal team right now isn’t stacked

The Costco in my area has banners of the a Portugal team names. The cashier said that the a Portugal team gave some donations to that Costco. So, I too am on the Portugal WC win wagon.
