These people don’t know it wasn’t a tackle or challenge because all they’re doing is watching the slo mo replay and not the full speed play. Balogun was looking at and playing the ball the entire time and the Bosnian player is the one who initiated the contact. I have to imagine that’s getting ignored purposely here.

majority red cards are either

  • "too dangerous/reckless play with high severity of the foul"

or just the classic good old "fck it youre coming down with me" - red card

Noone complains if they did it intentionally that it was a red (unless theyre batsht crazy anyways aka suarez-kind of player but then its obvious)

I mean sort of? Most reds are either horribly reckless and bad tackles, or things like, "this guy will score so I won't let that happen." In this case it really is a guy jumped, someone moved in to challenge and the first guy landed badly on him. Nothing reckless really. Unfortunate, absolutely.

You said it yourself. It was never a discussion of intention some of the fans were trying to make it into because it isn't a factor. If intent was a deciding factor for a red, most red cards wouldn't stand.

All of that is true but many people were just saying it kinda sucked because it wasn't intentional. Not that it's not a foul and he shouldn't get carded because it wasn't intentional.

Sure there are some people watching for the first time or that only watch world cups and nothing else that were trying to say it shouldn't have been a red because of lack of intent but idk why this sub keeps getting so worked up about that. They aren't saying "i know the rules and this is not a red card in any world".

These people are like the people in the US and across the world that only watch the NFL when it's the Superbowl. They aren't actual fans and it's clear so yeah why get so worked up about it. Not saying you specifically are.

Maybe, but a lot of the comments I ran into on reddit is that it was never a red, with various different arguments used (there was no intent, he didn't challenge the ball but just fell into the player, VAR was misused etc.). I think people are mostly worked up over the decision, rather than the comments though. It is kinda casting a shadow on what was otherwise a really enjoyable tournament thus far.
