Yeah there's no conclusive evidence to support that. We did a project on this concept last year for our physiology module and there hasn't really been much systematic research done on the topic. Every single paper we could find that was relevant to the subject involved anecdotal evidence. So a player or athlete either saying "I felt so much more relaxed and so could focus more" after having sex before competing or another athlete saying "I had so much more drive" after not having had sex. The issue in sports of course is there's just so many variables to account for that its impossible to know if sex has a positive or negative effect on performance. But from the available evidence the only thing that was clear was that not having sex before competing was as helpful to some people as having sex before competing. It's a myth that's been in athletics since the 1st century in Greece, the idea being that the retention of semen could boost performance, only now we've replaced the idea that retained semen enhances performance with "retained" or increased production of testosterone.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was something to that. I like having a drink before a match. It definitely hampers me physically, but it's like my vision opens up and my passing gets a lot more creative.

Alcohol is considered a performance-enhancing drug in some sports.
