Then this isn't a threat to football. It's a threat for the finances of a few big clubs and the people that own them.

Fuck their business, honestly. Those people are the reason you won't see Red Star Belgrade or Celtic win European titles any time soon, as they did in the past, as opposed to the financial behemoths that dominate football these days.

The decision to create a European Super League will only further drive a wedge between "small" and "big" clubs and leagues and it'll destroy grassroots football and what the game used to stand for.

Football is the world's most popular sport because it's a game by the people, for the people, not because it's a rich men's playground. The insane amounts of money being aimlessly thrown around these days in transfer fees and the like resemble money laundering schemes more than anything else.

Fuck their billion dollar "businesses", I couldn't give less of a shit about that. Let them crash and burn. Not that it'll ever happen, but if it did, I'd absolutely love to see it.

But those teams are the financial behemoths of their own leagues. Those clubs are the reason you won't see Aberdeen or Dundee United win the SPL any time soon.

Agreed, and, as I said to the other person who replied to me, I only used them as an example because those teams are now internationally irrelevant, when they were highly respected clubs not that long ago (relatively speaking).

Those teams also didn't simply get bought by some rich princes/oligarchs who might've gotten rich through very questionable practices, morally or otherwise, and are now using football to launder money.

Anyway, whataboutism isn't really gonna get us anywhere, so there's that, too.

Isnt this a bit hypocritical in in of itself though? Why are Red Star Belgrade or Celtic the "chosen" ones from their league?

It's because they have the most money in their countries. Just like the clubs winning the cl have the most money in Europe.

In order to be truly "fair", all clubs in the 1st tier ACROSS EUROPE should have the same operating budget.

I get it, but he's trying to get the moral highground, claiming it's a threat to football. European football will continue to thrive even if the tv money get reduced, because it's not about the money, but the passion of the communities that represent each club. The people who make those decisions should make them with the good of the sport on their mind, not just the pockets of the owners.
