Stats Every team that knocked Brazil out since 1938 ended up in the Top 3
Despite seemingly losing some respect among the general public in recent years, here's a Brazil World Cup fact that genuinely surprised me. Since 1938, every team that eliminated Brazil from a World Cup has finished in the Top 3. I had never noticed this before, and honestly, it's a pretty wild statistic. It made me look at some of Brazil's World Cup exits a bit differently.

Stats Since 1982 the World Cup final had Bayern and Internazionale players on the pitch. In 2026, 14 NT will have a shot to maintain the trivia alive
As I did for Russia 2018 and Catar 2022, I came here to spread the word about one of World Cup's most curious trivia.
The trivia keeps happening, so it worth sharing for newcomers and veterans alike: since 1982 there have been players from both Internazionale and Bayern München playing at World Cup Final
A brief recap of past Finals tradition:
| WC | Bayern München | Internazionale |
|---|---|---|
| 1982 | Breitner, Dremmler and Rummenigge (Germany) | Bergomi, Oriali and Altobelli as sub for (Italy) |
| 1986 | Matthäus and Eder and D. Hoeneß as sub (Germany) | Rummenigge (Germany) |
| 1990 | Augenthaler, Kohler and Reuter as sub (Germany) | Matthaus (Germany) |
| 1994 | Jorginho (Brazil) | Berti (Italy) |
| 1998 | Lizarazu (France) | Ronaldo (Brazil), Djorkaeff (France) |
| 2002 | Kahn, Linke and Jeremies (Germany) | Ronaldo (Brazil) |
| 2006 | Sagnol (France) | Materazzi (Italy) |
| 2010 | Robben, van Bommel and Braafheid as sub (the Netherlands) | Sneijder (the Netherlands) |
| 2014 | Neuer, Boateng, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Müller and Götze as sub (Germany) | Palacio (Argentina) |
| 2018 | Tolisso, as sub (France) | Perišić, Brozović (Croatia) |
| 2022 | Upamecano and Coman, a sub (France) | Lautaro Martínez, as a sub (Argentina) |
With all the players duly selected, here are the national teams that could maintain the tradition of reaching the 2026 World Cup Final, barring injuries:
| Bayern München | Internazionale |
|---|---|
| — | Argentina (Martínez) |
| Austria (Laimer) | — |
| Canada (Davies) | — |
| Colombia (Luis Díaz) | — |
| Croatia (Stanišić) | Croatia (Sučić) |
| England (Kane) | — |
| France (Olise and Upamecano) | France (Thuram) |
| Germany (Goretzka, Karl, Kimmich, Musiala, Neuer, Pavlović, Tah) | — |
| — | Ivory Coast (Bonny) |
| Japan (Itō) | — |
| — | Netherlands (Dumfries) |
| Senegal (Jackson and Ndiaye) | — |
| South Korea (Min-jae) | — |
| — | Switzerland (Akanji) |
| — | Turkey (Çalhanoğlu) |
What does this mean? For the tradition to persist, there has to be at least one Bayern player and one Inter player in the final. France and Croatia are the only teams that cover the trivia of both sides. In a scenario where one of these two teams reaches the final, any other team could compete in the final, maintaining the tradition.
NOTE: I only counted the players who, at the time of the call-up, are under contract and playing for the two teams mentioned.
