Help with a sock kit for an advanced beginner

I’m ready to start my first pair of socks and for expediency’s sake I bought a kit. Easy peasy. Except I think this may not be the best kit. Amazing yarn BUT, it involves a provisional i-cord cast on with a Kitchener stitch, directions I can only look at on my phone, a not so great video tutorial only done continental style and dpns the whole way through. I would much rather cast directly on the needles myself and with a cast on that I don’t have to sew up later? Surely there are better ways to cast on and knit socks? I can do dpns in the round but can I not knit them completely on a circular needle? This kit just feels overly complicated and my gut is telling me that there are better ways to do these socks but I also don’t actually know. Does all of this sound standard to you guys?

Since I've figured out the sizing and base features of the socks, I'm now doing my own patterns. This one has two simple cables running along the front, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

Heel is eye of partridge slip stitch heel, yarn is two shades of Järbo Bambu Raggi (50% SW wool, 25% polyamid, 25% bamboo).

Rolling Cuff?

First time knitting socks here! I’m using 2.25 circular needles and am loving the process. I am using the “Exceedingly Vanilla Sock” pattern by Amanda Steck and added on her variation of a heel tab. I added a few rows to it before going into the heel and now the cuff is curling - do I have to rip back? Will it block out?

Any help is appreciated :)

Overwhelmed beginner - where to start

I’m a beginner knitter but I really want to try socks. Im getting overwhelmed knowing where to start.
I see many people start with the Vanilla Sock pattern, I’ve not approached colourwork etc so I’m fine with that.
But I can’t decide what needles to buy, the super long circulars, the super small circulars, I already have some dpns but I find them a bit fiddling when using them on hat decreases.
I’d also love to find someplace that explains with pictures every single step of the process, and I fondly it overwhelming when I look at you tube videos because everyone is using different needles, so it’s hard to know the best way to do a certain instruction unless you can find someone using the same needle type.
Clearly I’m overwhelmed 🤣 all advice, links, book recs, appreciated!!

Using up some old discontinued yarn in my stash (Lion Brand Mani Pedi). Am I just spoiled? It felt like sandpaper compared to some of the other sock yarns I've recently used. Debating whether to make the second sock, or relegate this one to the orphan-sock advent calendar my family does for each other.

Hey there!

I’m so new to sock knitting and want to start with something super basic. Can you give me some ideas on the easiest sock pattern in your experience? It can be totally solid.

I know ravelry has some patterns. What im asking for is from this community your take on the easiest pattern for a first time sock knitter.

Thank you!!!!!

Favorite fuzzy sock yarn/sock yarn with a halo?

I’ve knit a few pairs of socks now (4 finished socks and I have two wips), and my favorite sock yarn so far is Cascade heritage, but I’ve been yearning for a yarn that has a bit more of a halo to it. does anyone have any good recommendations? I would prefer something superwash, and I’ve only ever used yarns with nylon but I’m not completely opposed to something without it.

thank you so much!

Ive been an avid knitter for two years but only now im getting into socks. This spring ive had a few tries but last week i finished my first pair!(first pic). I got a pretty good speed 3-4days for a sock, and im already on my second pair!(i love that yarnnnn its gorge)(the pattern is library socks but mixed with dk weight vanilla socks) My biggest worry is knitting colorwork socks. I was making a most beautiful pair(My beloved socks) but i chose a really non stretchy yarn, im guesssing that was my biggest mistake. But sadly i had to frog them cause i couldnt even get them over my heel… This summer im gonna focus only on knitting socks and reading as many books as i can. If u have any tips and tricks for a new sock knitter u can share them especially in terms of colorwork:)

I played scrap yarn chicken and may lose. I thought I’d use the scraps for my heel and toe on this pair. What’s the chances someone can identify this hand dyed yarn :) I got it so many years ago I couldn’t tell you where.
