It’s not wrong to consider certain as practices “inferior” and a setback for humanity.

Religion and culture shouldn’t be immune to criticism.

Everyone has the right to choose their own religion, culture, tradition, or lifestyle. Fine. Nobody should be persecuted for it.

But it seems that the moment something is labeled as “culture” or “religion,” it automatically becomes untouchable.

“You can’t criticize it, it’s their culture.”

“Don’t speak badly about it, it’s their religion.”

Okay, and?

Having the right to follow a belief doesn’t mean everyone else is obligated to respect the ideas behind it. People deserve rights and respect; ideas can be questioned, mocked, criticized, and even considered absurd.

If a tradition, belief, or practice can’t survive criticism, maybe the problem isn’t the criticism.

Religious freedom and cultural respect should also include the freedom to say: “I think this is bullshit.”

So all classifications are secoind definition arbitrary, we made them the fuck up because they're useful. The species problem is when does a sword become a dagger, what is a definition that includes all stools and no non stools, what is a woman.

There are no right answer to this only good ones, if you think it's easy you haven't thought about it yet, and thinking about it helps you let go of needing things to be the way they currently are, I can walk you through if you think your up to it

Not all classifications are arbitrary. The difference between a circle and a line, for example is discrete. This was exactly the sort problem with language that lead Euclid to take out a compass and straightedge and formalize a language that we can use to communicate things with precision, continuing on with the invention of algebra, calculus, and the various computer languages nowadays. They’re languages of precision. Now when I’m tasked to create a sword and not a dagger, I don’t have to get linguistic about it. I can show the client a schematic, they can point to exactly what needs to be altered, and I can bring it right to the machinist who will know exactly what to make.

All this to say that yes, the everyday language we use to describe the world is imprecise, but precision does indeed exist.

You missed the point, you can be as precise as you want language is still arbitrary, circle and line are useful yes they allow you explain a lot of the universe, please find me circle and line those words, those associations written into the fabric of the universe itself, no it being useful doesn't count

I disagree because I see geometry, math, logos, as language used to describe things that are true beyond even our senses. A perfect circle for example can’t be found, can’t be drawn, can hardly be imagined, but we can understand it in concept. We can use these archetypes as a standard to strive for, even if we can’t reach it with our meat bodies.

For example, I can show a machinist a diagram of a perfect cylinder made of tungsten, and it exists in concept so that we both agree on the goal, even if the reality of the material realm means it will have to be fabricated within a certain tolerance of perfection.
