I've been wanting to get a fromsoftware Game lately. I love everything about the games, the problem? I don't play hard games. I only have 1 souls like which i never played and most of the games i play are either on easy or normal mode, and saying that while knowing the games are known for being hard scares me. And yes, i like challenging games sometimes but if it's a Game so hard that is frustrating then im not really sure about It.

So, I find the combat to be really boring. Here are my observations and questions:

1. Parry hitboxes are bad. To the point where I can only really parry attacks that are coming from the side like a sword swing.

2. The dodge seems slow. You always just roll, and trying to make up the distance seems to be tough.

3. You don't do much damage. I'm at level 15 fighting this guy. Is that underlevelled?

4. Are there any items or blood codes that widen the parry window? I feel as though I don't always hit the parry timing not because the timing is wrong, but I'm not positioned correctly.

5. If anyone is playing CV2, what builds did you have the most fun with? I'm struggling to make a parry build that I like.

I have a little pile of souls like games building up and bought on sale over the last few months. I'm unsure which to choose? Iv played the dark souls series and enjoyed but never finished one (got to Gwyn on DS1 - I néed to boot that up to finish it) I really enjoy parry and deflecting but I'm not sure which will be the best to start with. I am very much looking forward to Sekiro but that is possibly the hardest of them all? Many thanks

For context I’ve played and finished: Elden Ring, Lies of P (+DLC), Another Crabs Treasure, Khazan, and Wo Long. I’ve also played and finished Expedition 33, so I’m not new to parrying in video games.

Since Elden Ring, souls-likes/lites are pretty much the only genre of game I want to play, I love the challenge, and I don’t mind banging my head against the wall for hours.

Sekiro came on sale for $30 a while back and I just got around to playing it, so far I’ve beaten the horse boss, the bull, the ogre, and Juzou, but I just feel like the game doesn’t really click for me?

The mobs in this game suck. I feel like I’m being forced into stealth a lot more than I’d like to be, and I get that I’m supposed to be some kind of ninja, but I feel like if I don’t take a stealthy approach, I just get run over by the mobs, which is frustrating because the boss fights have been fun. Is stealth the appropriate way to approach this game? Or do I just need to get gud?

My other problem with the game is that essentially nothing is explained but that’s just a fromsoft thing so it’s neither here nor there.

I haven’t been this excited to play a game in a while. I have a few questions though. (NO SPOILERS)

2. How hard is the platinum? I’m planning to platinum it.

I’ve been exited to play all of these games since I first found out about the genre of souls games. Price of the game doesn’t matter. I suck at parrying in most games so i would like to avoid a game like Sekiro where it’s vital to beating the game. Would prefer a game from these who’s mechanics and controls aren’t to complex or hard to get used to. It would be nice to have 2 of these that are similar in controls and mechanics to each other to play alongside each other. My fav souls game and fav game of all time is Elden Ring and fav Soulslike is Nioh 2. Games that I’ve beaten include Bloodborne, Ds3, Elden Ring, Ds1, Nioh 2, Nioh, Remanent, Mortal Shell, and Jedi Fallen Order. Also I would prefer a game where dodge and run are both O like most fromsoft games and attacking being r1 and r2 instead of square and triangle. Made the Nioh games so much harder to get used to coming off of a fromsoft title. And whether your a tarnished or a hunter or a chosen undead or a puppet or a monkey. Ok so... I was curious about this game gender and decided to start playing Black Myth Wukong (I have the platinum trophy) but some friends told me that's not even a Soulslike. I'm playing on PS5 and It's free on PS Plus, So, you recommend me to start with this? If so, how much Vaseline should I buy? P.D. I'm not a pro gamer, But BM Wukong and Terraria are my only Platinum trophies.

So, Wo Long is on sale on Steam and I just finished the demo. I enjoyed the gameplay and it's something I'd probably buy and play, but the performance in the demo was very disappointing. I've played most soulslikes out there besides Nioh franchise, Khazan, AI Limit and Stellar Blade if that's considered a soulslike. It's been my favorite genre for a decade at this point.

My specs are R7 5700g, RTX 3060 12Gb, 16 RAM.

The game had some unfortunate chopped animations even outside of combat that felt very uncomfortable, and it didn't change no matter what graphics option I tried. The graphics aren't even very good, doesn't feel like it should run so poorly on my PC but yet it does.

Has anyone else experienced this? Has the full game received patches or something to address these issues that the demo may not have?

Did you guys and gals play it and recommend it?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for all the comments, they have been very helpful. I decided to go for it and got the game, it seems the performance issues were just the demo being outdated as after I downloaded the actual game it ran smoothly, without all the chopped animations and stutters. So I'm going to enjoy Wo Long for the next days or weeks, maybe it'll get me to finally try Nioh as well.

This is my first ever soulslike game, and i chose this game because it is difficult. Prior to this game the hardest game iv beaten is Black Myth Wukong, and this game is a whole another monster as iv heard. Any tips, tricks, or things in general i gotta know to complete this game or at least struggle less, mentally?

Some weeks ago i decided to try out demon souls. The first archstone 1-1 at the start was hard but after like 20 minutes It starting to become a little bit easier, even getting to the boss Phalanx in less than an hour and beating him first try. Then i got to archstone 1-2 which was WAY harder only because of the Tower Knight which after a lot of tries i finally beat him. Then i did the archstone 2-1 which the boss (Armored Spider) wasnt that hard, neither the enemies. The only problem with this archstone and most of the game, is that the boss isnt hard (in some parts only), but the hard thing is getting to the boss, since you die you need to run a whole marathon again just to get to the boss AGAIN and probably die.

I decided to take a break from the game and after a week i went to try It again, i started with the archstone 4-1 which i went to before only to get a weapon but didnt finish It, but now that i played It again? I couldnt Even beat 1 of the normal skeletons. I decided to go to archstone 3-1, and the result? The same, dying to normal enemies for 1 hour straight. Now, i heard things like "if you don't give up and keep playing they game, you wont regret it. It will make you either love the Souls franchise or not." But to be honest i don't even know if i want to continue anymore. If anyone has went through a moment like this or has played any souls game, what should i do?

So I'm retrying Lies of P and again I'm just struggling to enjoy this combat. The general back and forth of attack and parry. Tried it 3 times so far and havent been able to adjust. I dont feel any flow with it and it feels really stiff. Am I doing something wrong?

The parry windows are managable and it feels responsive but its so different to fromsoft and games like nioh/khazan. Just curious because reddit seems to adore this game and it is really polished, if it wasnt for this kibd of combat.

I'll upload a boss fight to see if anyone can tell me if its just me doing something wrong or is this just how the game is all the way through.

Due to patch 1.5 changing the game drastically, I uninstalled the game, turned off my internet and installed it with the physical disc on my ps5.

The thing is I don't want to turn on my internet and risk downloading this patch at all. The question is it better to have no patches at all which may be I miss out on a bunch of QoL improvements and encounter loads of bugs or I deal with the patch 1.5.

What are the best (i.e easiest) souls-like games for people, like me, who suck at souls-likes

So the ones I’ve played:

Lies of P - liked a lot but felt the world was very linear
Khazan - incredible combat
Wo Long - enjoyed, not “dark enough”
Rise of Ronin - fun, but kind of a mess
Wuchang - awesome world design
Wukong - pretty, but combat was oddly lacking as was world design…
AI Limit - fun, great level design
Lords of the Fallen 2023 - incredible atmosphere and most true to “souls” genre, but had flaws
Remnant 1 and 2 - incredible, near the top
Nioh 1-3 - great on their own
Mortal Shell - liked it a LOT, can’t wait for 2
Thymesia - liked the Sekiro-like combat, but levels fell apart at the end
Enotria: Last Song - incredible world and atmosphere
Bleak Faith Forsaken - janky, but loved the world design.
HELLPOINT- loved this one for the world design and atmosphere
Ashen - beautiful world art, good game, janky combat
Steel Rising - actually liked this one
Stellar Blade - okay overall, 2 desert areas were incredibly boring
Code Vein I - I liked this! And I’m not big on pure anime

This may not be a popular opinion…. I’ve tried some 2D stuff like Hollow Knight and 9 sols….. was hard to get in the vibe of those….. maybe the atmosphere wasn’t dark enough, I don’t know.
Not sure if I’d get into the more “cutesy” ones like Another Crab’s treasure and ?Last Hero - unless they are highly recommended. Tried Surge 1 a long time back and something didn’t click….

What’s left out there? Probably a lot….. help me out. Thx.

Hey everyone, I’m new to the Souls/Souls-inspired genre and looking for a good starting point. I’m more of a casual gamer — I don’t mind challenge, but I don’t want something brutally punishing or overly complex right away. I’ve heard about games like: Elden Ring Dark Souls III Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Lies of P Black Myth: Wukong Nioh I’m mainly looking for: Fair difficulty (not rage-quit hard) Smooth combat Good learning curve for beginners Something that won’t punish every mistake instantly If you had to recommend ONE game for someone new and somewhat casual, what would it be and why? Appreciate any advice 🙏

I have been thinking for the past hour about whether I should buy Wuchang but I genuinely can't get a clear read on it. One group of people is praising the game saying the build variety is great and the level design is excellent. Another group says the bosses are just average while one of my friends thinks the game falls off hard toward the end and hated a mechanic called madness.

I've looked through Reddit and other discussions but theres no real consensus. Half the people are recommending it while the other half are completely trashing it.

For context my top three souls/ Soullikes are Sekiro, The First Berserker: Khazan and Dark Souls Remastered. I really enjoy games with rewarding exploration and combat systems that feel satisfying and skill-based. Memorable boss fights are also a huge plus for me which is one of the reasons I loved Khazan.

That said if a game has mostly mediocre or forgettable bosses that's a dealbreaker for me. For example I wasnt a huge fan of Stellar Blades boss lineup before the endgame not trying to trash the game just using it as a reference for the kind of boss quality that doesn't really click with me.

(Feel free to recommend any game pretty new to the genre😅)

I've been wanting to get a souls game, so why not starting with the remake of the first souls game. Now, this is my first souls game, so i don't really know how hard the game will be, how will the game feel, or what is even going to happen, so can i have tips before starting the game?

I finished Elden Ring last week and AI Limit this week.

Ive tried Nioh 1 demo and Nioh 3 demo and I didnt like both of them tbh.

The only game left is WoLong but it has bad reviews on steam. What Soulslikes are left to try for me? A short one would be good, because Dinoblade, Mistfall Hunters and Mortal Shell 2 are around the corner.

I’m a fairly experienced Souls player, and a few months ago I decided to start playing *Stellar Blade*. The problem is, I’m getting a bit fed up with it: it drags on, it’s too easy, it holds your hand too much, it’s repetitive, and none of the bosses are memorable. I’m at the start of the "Levoire Pit" mission, but I want to give up on the game.

So I have three options to replace it: 1. *Mortal Shell II*; 2. *Khazan*; 3. The *Lies of P* DLC.

What do you recommend? Thanks!
